Hey Guys,

Trying to remember if there were actual 80's-90's versions of the video game characters from Nintendo. Not interested in anything from the terrible Mario Bros movie. I also remember the McDonald's Happy Meal give-aways. But I vaguely remember toys in the 80's-90's based on Nintendo characters. Can anyone help refresh my memory? This site rocks for knowledge and information.

Thanks

Are you asking for Mario specifically or anything Nintendo? Because there was that Ocarina of Time toyline in 98. McDonald's also did Mario 3 toys like Mario with the tail on a spring bouncy thing, Luigi in a cloud, a Paratrooper that had this air compressor thing to make his hind legs move, and a Gomba.

Not something as late as 98. I'm aware of the McDonald's give aways. There was nothing official for Nintendo in the 80's to early 90's? What were these punch out figures?

That was the only thing available, at least in the United States. I had the trophies, too, and took them apart to make figurines. They had mario, bowser, bulletbill, hammertroopa, and a few others.

Basically amiibos without computer chips in them. Just little plastic figurines on bases.

They were made by Nintendo. I don't remember any licensor tag on them. You'll have to look on eBay. These came out in 1988/89ish. I got mine at Lionel Playworld and Service Merchandise.

Looks like from the versions that I've seen on ebay are all in rough shape. The stamps on them seem to say Hasbro produced them.

1988 Nintendo Trophy Figures Mario Set 6/6 Zelda Set 5/6 *11 Total Pieces* | eBay

Fair prices for these? Many I'm seeing on ebay are in bad shape.

Thanks

Not really, unless it's personally worth it to you to spend a few hundred more and get them all in one shot. They definitely are not super rare or super common either and I'm not an expert or anything so there may be some that are really hard to get, but I wouldn't pay much more than $35-45 apiece boxed and there's only 11 there for nearly $900.

Appreciate it sir. Where did you find yours? Most of the ebay auctions want more than like $30 per trophy and a lot seem to be missing parts or pieces.

I never had any and only became aware of them a few years ago but I've been eyeballing what they go for ever since since there's a lack of much else vintage when it comes down to licensed Nintendo plastic toys. Loose ones seem to go $20s or perhaps less, but you make a good point about missing pieces because I'm not sure if I'd be able to tell.

We have been able to be glad to love what you find. However, the price seems a little high.

There was also Mario Kart 64 figures from (I think) ToyBiz, as well as some Diddy Kong Racing figures.

Back when Super Mario Bros was first out, there were figurines from applause. I had one of Mario climbing a beanstalk that I taped to my NES. There were like 5 different ones total,I think one was kicking a Koopa Shell? I don’t remember in detail,I was like 7. They weren’t “action figures,” they were like smurfs or California raisins.

I’m kicking myself for not buying the punch out trophies from TRU when they were 50 cents!
