One night while he was in his room with mom getting dressed I went to clean the tub out and put his toys away. That's when it started, I thought about how when I was younger and how cool it would have been if my dad had collected the GIJoes that I played with. Since then I have been collecting (MOC) and sometimes have to buy two of stuff because my son still likes them and will steal mine if I don't get him one. Also after finding out about the prices of some of these things it brought a tear to my eye to see my son play with Warpath in the tub...but then I remember that these TOYS are made for kids just like him and the smile he gets playing with them is priceless. Plus I have always loved Marvel and the 3.75" size (due to loving GIJoes when I was young); also I get to teach my son all about the Marvel Universe, and believe me, there is so much I don't know I get in to learning about it with him. All in all I collect them because I love toys and I get to bond with my son.
This is a great way to bond. i do the same thing. We also watch the Avengers cartoon as well and he gets out the guys he has and asks to borrow mine so he can act along with the characters

Ditto, my DVR is full of Marvel Cartoons. I had to buy a TV for the bedroom because my wife gets so frustrated with us (me & my son), the cartoons and the toys all over the living room.

I hope I can do that with my boy when he gets older. When he turns 2, i'm going to get him some of those marvel super hero squad guys.

Somebody else on here posted a pic of their kid making an awesome diorama

Originally I started only wanting the avengers, bought Captain America/Winter Soldier two-pack, Extremis Iron Man and Thor, but a couple buddies and I decided to take a road trip to the toy and action figure museum in Oklahoma City this summer and made stops at every wal-mart, Target, and Toys R Us on the way down there and my collection just snow balled. I still don't have the regular Hawkeye though...

Hundreds of years ago, when I was still a child, I collected the Secret Wrs figures and would spend hours on the phone with a friend doing the "would'nt it be great if they made this..." thing.
That was when the Deluxe Edition Marvel UNiverse sourcebooks first came out- you could read about so many charcaters you never saw before!
My first custom was taking a Secret Wars Spidey and making the all-white Super adaptoid..which, unfortunately, I painted with White Out.

Forward to a couple of years ago:
I saw color Vision while looking for something else at TRU and thought "I should collect just the Avengers".
They had a whole peg of him so I put him back, naturally.

D'oh!

Then I got Ms. Marvel and, seeing that the line was not a sausagefest, started buying.
Loved the scale since I was a kid getting GI JOes so this was the best of all worlds, really.

Then, looking at Figurerealm, I saw Riverspoons' customs and saw this site and now I'm here.

What were your first figures?

Iron Spider-man, Hobgoblin and Green Goblin.

Why did you start collecting Marvel Universe?

Because I'm a nerd.

What makes you keep collecting them?

I always get ideas in my head that I can pose them and make awesome scenes but I hardly ever do and they sit on my shelf collecting dust. Dust is what I really aim to collect and they're pretty good at it.

My first MU figures were Colossus, Juggernaut and the Nightcrawler/Storm comic pack. That sent me down hill! I guess it is trying to recapture my youth. I remember getting a figure and being lucky if it had 5 points of articulation so its nice to have options for posing. I keep collecting because I have a sickness that I can't find a cure for!!!!

Marvel Universe was one of the hard hitting lines we started covering here since its inception. DESTRO bought some to review, and I liked what I heard, and bought some. Gi joe scale was cool, and the quality was way better than the Toy Biz SHS.

I've fallen in and out of love with the line a couple of times. One thing is certain though, it improves substantially each year.

Improves is relative. They're still using bodies from the first year!

They're just now more aware of what they're doing.

Friends told me about the new series. So I waited for Wave 1 to hit, picked it all up at TRU. Pretty straight forward. :P

my first MU figure is classic iron man from series 1. after that i collect all iron man armor first, and then continue collect the others

i dont like MU too much, its because i like to collect all that connected with AVENGERS team and i saw that MU series have avengers line more complete frm other size (like 6 inch or 12 inch more), so thats the reason i starting collect MU line until now, but not all figures only avengers team and member

now im waiting MU 2012 series will come lol

I started back in 2009. I was hardcore into GI Joe at the time and when I read in ToyFare about these figures I was stoked. Due to some money issues that year I sold off most of them. I just barely started again with this line with Jim Lee Cyclops. My first one back in 2009 were Red Hulk, Black Costume Spiderman, and Daredevil.

I've always loved Marvel comics over any other brand. I've always collected toys, going back to when I was little and had a huge box of GI Joes (or Action Force as they were in the UK).
So I picked up Toyfare every now and again and one issue had MU splashed over the front, with images of Spidey, Thing and Nick Fury (the e-subscription figure it would turn out).
They had a rough release date and, at that point, I didn't really have a focused collection, I was just buying what I liked from any range, scale etc. About a month later my local comic shop got wave 1 and I grabbed Spidey, Punisher, Daredevil and the now much sought after Human Torch variant. They had the rest but I thought i'd stagger it...two days later I left work early booked it to the shop and bought the rest of wave 1!
I've not looked back and, 200+ figures later, i'm still excited by what's about to come out, what's in the future and, obviously, marvelling at the collection I have!

I started collecting comics back in like '85, all Marvel, and a huge X-Men fan. After high school I started to kind of grow out of comics, and I had other expensive hobbies, so I had to choose (I got into music and dj'ing, and equipment and records are far from cheap). After about a 10 year hiatus, started meeting more people who were (still) into comics and toys. I guess around 2006 I started to get into comics again, and had about 11 years of back issues to get. Around this time the Transformers movie came out, and while I do have some issues with all of that, I started getting into buying TF's and eventually toys again. Well, things get sad for me soon after (2008), the economy tanks, self-employed so it had a severe effect on me and my comic book habit, which was insane with all those damn X-books.

Around 2009 I started to notice the XMO Wolverine line and then the first wave of MU. At first I wasn't really feeling it, and money was tight. But, I did say to myself that I did WANT the flame-on Torch which I have been seeing for weeks, and XMO Deadpool and brown suit Wolverine (I'm an 80/90's X-Men Fan). By the time I got the money, Torch was gone and so I got Wolvie and Deadpool. Kept them MOC, and that was that.

At the time I was more into TF's, classics, generations, universe. So I stumbled upon the TFW2005 site, and through there, Toyark. WOW, all these awesome toys, that I can not afford. But lo and behold, one day, front page, I see Archangel and Havok for MU. Fuck yeah, I had to have those. So I started to pay more attention to MU figures while out on my hunt. And hell yes, I found them, variants at that!!! A couple of days later I went out again, looking for the regular versions, and, being a big X-Men fan, bought those along with Collossus and Mystique, and told myself I would just buy X-Men only. Well, next thing I knew I was buying Ghost Rider, then IM2 figures, and now, I like almost every figure they make, it definitely is more of an addiction.

I really love Marvel's character's (over DC), and with the comic renaissance that's been going on over the past few years, a lot of older characters are making a resurgance with more interesting stories, and not just reduced to 2nd, 3rd and even 4th string characters. A lot of new characters are comming out, and different twists on existing characters (Spider-Man, Avengers, Future Foundation, X-Force). Also, Secret Wars was out when I was getting into comics, so for me it was nostalgic to see these comic packs and figures. So as long as they look really cool and can pose nice, I will buy it. I am buying almost entire waves for the past year now.

Yes too many dang X-Books as much as I'm a fan of X-Men they need to drop at least 2!
Yup how can you call yourself an X-Fan if you don't have all of them in the MU line...anything X-related basically as well:P

Yeah, I want an army of Sentinels to attack my X-Men and X-Villians, and I just can't commit to buying the retail version.

It seems like everytime Marvel tries to scale back on team books, they go into limited series, spin-off titles, then crossovers, then back to multiple books again!!! X-Men, Avengers, Spider-Man, Iron Man, FF. At times I do miss when they all kind of just occupied their own little world. Now everything is so inter-related, you, well, at least I, feel like I have to read it all. But, if you're a hardcore fan, u don't have to wait 30 days (or 15) for the next part of the story.

Agreed, didn't it start off in Civil War, but I can understand that having to bring all the books in, than went into WWH and so forth, it really started to get tiring after that...
