The repainting I half understand for this reasoning.
Business is business and this works. If it's a solid repaint, I rarely complain about it if it's a new character I want. But this is where it becomes an issue. Hasbro isn't making loads of NEW characters with their repaints, they're just repainting figures and we're getting the same people over and over. THIS is where shelf warming comes into play in MU. Iron man, Spiderman, more and more Iron man.. they sit. Because a repaint to give us the same character is dumb. Phoenix becoming Psylocke? Not the best mold no.. but I'm 110% more apt to buy Psylocke than an Iron Man with a blue arc reactor as opposed to the yellow one on my shelf for the same price.. intresting point .. i reckon they will carry on but im not sure if the 6" line will cause i havent seen much hasbro 6 inches and seems to based off the avengers so far, i like the movie versions , but i personally think they will do at least every chracter in the marvel universe with different version like movie , comic , other costumes. but as seeing avengers are coming out we still have to wait for films like the amazing spiderman, ghostrider 2 , iron man 3 , warmachine, nickfury so it depends on the contract between marvel and hasbro.

Considering they have reused molds for every toy line they've ever done, Hasbro will probably continue the practice as long as they remain in the toy business.
You also have to understand that even though collectors may not like it (even loathe it), it is a common practice in the toy industry and it's not just Hasbro. You only have to gaze over at the Mattel section of the aisle to see that (DCUC was practically built around the concept). Or even the Lego/Building Block aisle. Talk about reusing parts. ![]() There's no doubt that we have 3 Cyclops figures that are the exact same version of Cyclops all with the same body mold and even the era is pretty much the same. Spider-man, WOW. Modern Thor. Reusing Doc Samson's head on Thor... yeah, that's a bit lazy. Iron Man figures with arc reactor variations... Won't even go there. I don't even care when they reuse a mold and it's suitable and a different character, at least we get someone new. Like when they used Union Jack for the Hydra Soldiers. They look good enough. It's a generic mask. I can deal with that. Last edited by thechris; 09-28-2011 at 07:43 AM.. |

new collectors emerge everyday... and they will need those base characters. makes it easier than trying to find older ones from the first waves.. i'm a new collector and i was able to find a phasing Vision... this way i don't have to pay over $50.00 for a older figure... i like this...wish they would release another Blade or a damn Secret Wars Hawkeye! lol
Let's say you bought Extremis Iron Man but you needed say a Moon Knight but the only way to get him is in a two pack with an Extremis Iron man with a blue arc reactor. You say "Ok, yeah, that's cool... I guess." You buy it. Then you want the new Melter figure, but he's again paired with Iron Man with a gray arc reactor. Come on. Don't tell me it won't start to grate on your nerves, even a little bit. LOL. |

Dude, post whatever you feel like it. A thread is for discussion and opinions. Screw what anyone else thinks, if you have something to say then say it bro. This place is becoming more and more like hisstank and tfw in that aspect of peoples opinions being scrutnized and plenty of conversations that get these threads off track.

Phasing vision is a variant. He didn't take the place of another figure or get placed with a figure that people actually wanted. I think what we're complaining about is when we HAVE to buy a two pack or a boxset with a new figure boxed with Cyclops, Iron Man, Modern Thor or Spider-Man. Am I wrong or am I right? And say what you will, usagent27. Eventually, you'll have all the base figures and you'll likely be just as cranky most long term collectors about the repeats.

Of course, repainting Pheonix to Psylocke is beneficial to us because it got the figure to the us much faster than having to create a new mold for the head or torso. That may have saved as much as a year in production. It will be great when they get a new female torso to enable some different proportioned bodies or styled frames ... or even height differences! Hasbro has really done a lot with only figure bodies. But I agree - enough with the Iron Man figures and their random variants. Let them go into the IM and Avengers figure lines. |

I'ma throw in my 2 cents
remember when I talked about my "Give a kid a MU Figure" initiative charity thing? just give your doubles to kids. make them feel happy and it might get them interested if that dosent work, your LCBS will be glad to take them if they do in exchange for credit or space cash. |

Besides, we're all winners here. We collect toys as a hobby. How is that not a win? XD (And no, I'm not going to do a Charlie Sheen joke) Quote:

Don't get me wrong - I rarely like having multiples of the same mold in my collection, unless it's character-driven (i.e. TF Seekers). I just try not to buy it again, if possible. But I don't rage or get upset about Hasbro putting out yet another copy of an existing Iron Man mold. Whenever I got an exact duplicate due to a multipack or some other type of exclusive thing, I used to sell or trade off the extra. Then I became an uncle and I started to give them to my nephew. Now that I'm a dad, I'll give them to my daughter as well. Charity is also a wonderful choice. Quote:

Don't forget that the Legends line was still around in some form (Wal-Mart exclusives) almost right up until 2011. I think this could last a long time, especially with the success of the movies. I'm hoping for more sub-lines. I'd like to have Avengers and X-Men specific lines, the Avengers seems like it will definitely happen. Also, it would be cool to have more of a cosmic line.
