Quick question for the Hot Toys (or just general toy) experts on here. I’ve just started collecting Hot Toys Star Wars 1/6 scale figures and I’ve noticed on the Sideshow Collectibles website that there’s a Bespin Luke, Jedi Starfighter and R5-D4 amongst others, listed as ‘coming soon’, yet they appear to have been announced months (or even years) ago. My question is - how come these pieces appear to be stuck in limbo yet Hot Toys can announce and have a release date for figures from The Mandalorian with no delays?

It’s nice to see this piece rereleased, although I don’t want to disappear down the rabbit hole of collecting Marvel figures, despite me absolutely loving them. There’s no way I can afford these and the Hot Toys Star Wars figures too. Can anyone tell me how common is it for Hot Toys to rerelease older figures? I missed their Emperor Palpatine and ROTJ Luke but I’m hoping they’ll get rereleased in the future so I can avoid scalpers on eBay.

Those figures, Bespin Luke, R5-D4, etc are just prototype figures put up at conventions. They don't all get made into full releases. I'd expect that Luke to come at some point, but the Snowspeeder Luke is still on order, so they may wait until that is released. R5 who knows, and there's no way they're going to make the Starfighter. It's way too big, and Hot Toys doesn't tackle too many vehicles. Look up Jazzinc if you want to see some third party 1/6 scale options for displays and some vehicles.

I really doubt Palpatine, they'll almost certainly do Luke from The Mandalorian, so he may be as close as you'll get to a Jedi Luke reissue since he already had three releases. An exact reissue like this War Machine is pretty uncommon after so many years. There's some big examples lately though, but I don't think they'll re-release many figures as much as they may re-do them like with that Bespin Luke prototype. Hot Toys' first Star Wars figure was a Bespin Luke two pack.

dukefett - thanks for answering my questions. The ‘coming soon’ stuff being prototypes makes sense now. I couldn’t imagine the cost of a sixth scale starfighter from Hot Toys. I might hang tight for the possible Mandalorian Luke, but I’m very tempted to stump up the money to get the retired version with the Endor costume too.

HT is notorious for showing off prototypes and not releasing them. And now they’re notorious for re-releasing figures as well as estimated release dates that are extremely far out.

All I can say is good luck.

Well pandemic has companies digging back in the catalogue and re-releasing some popular and after-market favorites. Don't collect the scale but Mark 1 was the my favorite version of War Machine.

Will have to be patient Cameron but you probably have a good shot in seeing some re-issues (maybe some with less accessories) for Star Wars, especially anything associated in timeline to the original 6 Lucas films/episodes. It's a cash-cow. Always predicted after the Infinity Saga ended the demand will be far less for future MCU things (Avengers Universe was always technically 3rd at best in terms of Marvel IP, exclude Spiderman).
