I read recently that supossedly Roland Emmerich is in talks to write and direct Stargate 2 and 3.
Only if he gets his way, he plans on ignoring the existence of SG1 and Atlantis as though they never happened. Which sucks, because if SG1 didn't exist, Stargate would be a very obscure little movie no one remembers. SG1 went into production only like, two years after the movie left theaters, and even by then it had fallen into obscurity.

I was never impressed with the movie, or the toyline. But I fell in love with SG1. Rewatching the movie just feels odd without Teal'c, Carter, or Hammond. And with the "wrong guys" playing O'Neall and Jackson.

Sure, but Kurt Russel and myself get to be the first ones through.

Straight on an aliens head, and if they're primitive, they get to think they've angered an all seeing god. BONUS!

SG1 was great...but Atlantis was the best!

SO. FUNNY.

PLus...Sheppard will just kill a bad guy- no orders or anything needed.
When the baddies took over the city, it was like Die Hard but more brutal!

And you gotta love McKay. Promoting him from a very minor reoccuring SG1 character to maincast for the spinoff was one of the best things they did.
(As well as recasting Elizabeth. Nothing against the original actress, but she didn't have the presence Atlantis Weir had)

But I tend to go back and forth on Atlantis. I do not deny that it's an excellent show, funny and great writing... but to me... I dunno. The further it gets away from the base concept of Stargate... People in a modern setting going through the gate to explore worlds and cultures (Some alien, some based on primative earth cultures)... the less it works for me.

I mean it makes perfect sense! The way the continuity has advanced, that is! Gaining more technology to create their own ships, going to atlantis, SGU... even the way the mythology for the series has panned out, it all makes sense.
It just stops being as... I dunno... it doesn't stand out as much from the other Sci-fi as much.

And SGU losing everything that makes SG unique (It's strong and unique sense of humor for one, being a Battlestar Galactica ripoff for another) doesn't help.

I really enjoy Atlantis (Unlike SGU), but for all these reasons I'm just a little more into SG1.

The thing with Atlantis was that they got away from the SG1 formula- which was a good thing to me, having already owned all of SG1 on DVD and watched it a million times!
The other thing was the ongoing story narrative- which I much prefer but was again, not in the style of SG1's more syndication-friendly format.

A lot like the difference between TNG and DS9 in that regard (and I looooove DS9!).

And yeah, I love McKay! I just wish they'd have mentioned his past as a classical pianist- spoken of in SG1- not that it would have been easy to do, but they got to Earth on occasion!

SG1 was the shit because they referenced all sorts of other sci fi- with stuff like McKay cockblocking Sheppard by calling him "Kirk".

I just picked up a lot of the 4 "bad guys" from this line off of ebay for $10 shipped! I'm not expecting much from the figures themselves, but am hoping the accessories will lend to some awesome customs. I also just picked up the gate from the SG1 line, so I'm pretty excited to begin building my gate room and some customs!

I only recently got into the shows after watching the movie for the first time in years. I forgot how much I enjoyed the movie, and really like how SG1 follows the formula of firing up the gate and going exploring. I haven't seen any of the Universe episodes, and while I like the Atlantis episodes I've seen so far, I miss that exploration aspect that SG1 has.

Overall I'm happy to have nearly 20 seasons of cool tv episodes to track down and watch! Should keep me busy for a while

I always enjoyed the Stargate shows. I even liked how the show evolved as it went on but it did make harder for them to come up with problems they didn't already have the solution to.

Also, SGU gets a bad rap but there are plenty of reasons it is just foolish to try and call it a Battlestar clone. It shouldn't have been like SG-1 or Atlantis cause we already had plenty of that. It was simply too slow in late 1st season but it got really good in the second half of the 2nd season AFTER it had already been canceled.
