Has there ever been a figure you were really looking forward to seeing, shown prototypes at SDCC or toyfair and then they never produce it? A few come to mind for me, but none more than this one...

After seeing the hellicarrier scenes in the avengers movie, i was so looking forward to getting the 6 inch Thor in this suit, but was sooo pissed when I saw that as the walmart exclusive, they only released the 6 inch Thor with shorter hair in his suit from the first Thor movie. It pales in comparison. Really really disappointed me.

What other figures has anyone had similar experiences with??

Great thread, stjuggernaut!

I've got a couple. I'm not a diehard GI Joe collector, but I like them a lot. I pick up all of the ones that look really cool to me, new characters that look like they would fit in with the line really well, and any one that sparks up nostalgia. These next 2 figures fit in with the reasons I just listed.

Data Viper

Kwinn

These might see the light of day at some point but with Hasbro's recent offerings of GI Joe being disappointments, I can't help but hope for these.

"The Blank" from the old Dick Tracy line.

He (she) was on the back of the card, but the figure was never released in the US.

#1 on my list, Cotton Hill and Kahn from the King of the hill line made by TOYCOM. All of the first two waves ended up in bargain bins and I was lucky to get most of them but never got a chance to get Cotton, Kahn, Kahn JR or john Redcorn. Would have been awesome. Another is Zombie Ed from NECA's Sean of the Dead line. I think it was cancelled because the paint aps sucked, and they really did. There are some on Ebay though. Shame there was not a formal release but good that NECA does not have so much trouble with the paint as they did in those days.

Oh there are a few...

Fisto [wasn't into MOTUC at the time...wish I was] is the one I am really kicking myself for.

Kobra Kahn is up there.

My absolute number one right now is DOTM Human Alliance Soundwave, followed very closely by the deluxe version.

And I think some of you are missing the point of this thread. He's asking about toys that never got a release, not toys who got a release that you now regret passing on.

There's actually another thread for the latter:

going to back to the avenger figures seems like some are either late releases for example the helmet less Thor could of been for the Thor movie , battle damaged iron man for 2nd iron man film so 2 figs kinda wasted only exception was Loki , hulk, hawkeye and captain America still dreaming for a black widow fig though maybe when avengers 2 comes out

Dude I bet that figure will be saved for a mass market Avengers line next year or maybe as part of Marvel Legends. I want a figure of Thor in that suit too, so he can fight the Hulk!!!!!

Holy crap. I can't believe you threw this out! I had every single figure from that line (still do) but the one I wanted the most was the Blank. I would check every single figure every time I went to the toy store looking for that one. It wasn't until years later that I found out it was never released in the US.

yeh i did kind of mean figures that didnt end up getting released but its still cool to know which ones you guys wish you had bought! years ago i used to have star wars malek and revan but sold them when i needed some money, i didnt get much for either of them and now i wish i had kept them because of how expensive they are to rebuy.. now im more into star wars figures!! doh!

man it would be fantastic if they did release that thor as part of the marvel legends. now that is a figure id even pay scalper prices for im sorry to say! lets hope it gets some sort of wide release but i think thats being optimistic!

Diamond Select Toys Stargate SG-1 series 5 -- with Black Ops Carter, Col. O'Neil in dress blues, General Hammond, and Ba'al. They made the prototypes, websites had them available for preorder. . .then nothing.

They could've made all the System Lords and I'dve been all over that. And plenty of other high profile characters they never made from SG-1 and Atlantis.

"The Blank" from the old Dick Tracy line.

I remember as a kid being frustrated as hell trying to find a blank fig. I learned years later that she was a non-us release and i never would have found her. All my friends were equally frustrated. Anyone remember trying to find "ray filet" during his original release in the first turtle line? My mom searched high and low and couldn't find him. heh!
