if you want to go pro then thisDragonframe Software - Dragonframe but its not necessary unless your going pro.

also do some research into animation generally knowing times etc.
The more frames the better , if you feel you screwed up , re-do the whole scene.

Camera wise, i used to use a webcam, Digital cameras i dont think have particular settings for animation, as its done with frames. so 24 pictures = 1 second of animation.

Take an image , then pose, then repeat

you shouldn't need to change any settings for your camera , take a picture, if you're happy with it great. I dont know what your expectations are.

if it's like the video above, you need to either build a set , in 6 inch scale. Also most of it is done via vfx software like adobe after effects.
Do some research into behind the scenes, have a play at doing simple things. it's like drawing the more you do it , the better you will become.

Alrighty...shall i use Manual, auto, or custom for my camera, because i need to get good focus for my stop motion. All I want is to do a Alien/Predator skit Where a Predator hunts the Alien, then He Knocks out the Predator and bring him to the Xenomorph Boss. Then the Boss have praised the Young Xenomorph and allows him to Reclaim a Trophy of another Predator held captive. As the Main Predator wakes up, He Fights back the Young Alien and Kills him, Then the Boss Would Combat the Predator in a Grueling Fight. The Battle Ends with the Predator finishing off the Boss Alien by Claiming his head as a trophy.

do you have a lot of experience with your camera in manual mode ? If not you should just go with auto and make sure you have good lighting, the camera should take care of the rest.

Just take some shots with different settings and choose which you think looks best.

A tripod and a couple clear stands would be advisable as well.

Use lots of Blu-Tac to hold them in their poses as well. There is no answer to it, just start doing it. Don't mess around with the settings, just adjust the lighting and snap away.

Do a simple stick man type 4 frames per second "test" with some small generic figures first, even Lego figures will work. Make him walk across the screen and jump into the air and land at 4 frames per second.

Once you've did that.... begin you BIG ambitious project. Write an actual script. It may sound good in your head but not translate well. Writing it out should help. Draw up a story board and show yourself your exact vision. Easy to adjust angles from a drawing and see what does and doesn't work. Sucks to set up ten seconds of video, about 250 stop-pose-click shots, only to realise it would look better from a different angle. A story board will solve that.

Also, like stated above don't be afraid to start over if it isn't what you want. Keep us posted on your progress.
