Starting to realize nostalgia is a toxic thought that leads to stagnation, these retro style figures are a prime example.

I totally agree! Why don’t they just make Indy figures with the same articulation as Star Wars TVC? That would be awesome.

They did a line back around 2010, naturally it met the standards of the time and not of today.

Edit: the line started in 2008.

All those Kenner Wild West/Gabriel Lone Ranger-style figures had that going on. I guess so they can sit naturally on their horses...?

You often stoke toy memories on the periphery of my nostalgia bubble. I remember those Wild West figures. The funny thing is that those figs from 40 years ago actually look better than these 2023 wares. Granted, Hasbro’s shooting for retro here and those Wild West figs were kinda of standout for their day making the comparison a slightly indirect one. I agree that the horses were probably the rationale behind the Kenner/Gabriel decision that a rhombus makes for a realistic pelvis (along with the bowed legs), but the squarish crotch was a thing for most action figures and dolls at the time.

Damn, looking back on the Wild West (& the earlier Butch Cassidy) figs makes me start to understand the calls over on the Fwoosh for a 6” western period Articulated Icons Kickstarter. However, I think the original scale (3.75?) is more conducive for horses, stage coaches, and sets.

So tired of these garbage retro figures, and this one looks like Hasbro hired a 3-year-old to sculpt it.

The scanned-in soft detail.
Reminds me of the real photo scan tech of Attack of the Clones, where Obi-Wan looked more like a bearded Bill Maher or something. After that they went back to real sculpting, I think.

Vintage articulation was cheaper than making ball hip joints. Never mind if every character man spreads when sitting.

It really doesn't matter about articulation or sculpting. You aren't supposed to open these. Of course, one gets to wonder, why buy them?...just save a picture of them, it'll last longer and take up less space.
