Someone explain Maria Hill and Nick Fury to me and why they matter in the current MCU. SHIELD no longer exists, as far as I know, so why do they have any authority, resources, personnel, etc? I don't get it.

They're setting up S.W.O.R.D., I think. The extraterrestrial version of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Nick Fury seems to get his resources from space, although that's a bit spoiler-y so I won’t detail it here.

If you've seen Spider-Man: Far From Home then you'd know that calling that statue "Nick Fury" is FALSE ADVERTISING.
