As someone who just got back into collecting this year and as such am having to go back and locate old waves with figures I want, I am curious what others think about characters chosen for specific waves.

Do you prefer waves like the upcoming and older ML waves containing a bunch of disjointed characters from various titles/lines or do you prefer the more focused waves like the recent Spidey/Cap/GotG/X releases?

I personally prefer the more recent lines because it allows me to skip waves I do not particularly care about like the TRU X-Men line. I am not big on the X characters anymore and so only bought a Stryfe because I liked the look with little want for the others.

Of course this also stems from having to buy a bunch of random characters for a BAF I want (Rocket, Annihilus, Ronan) or wanting a character who seems harder to find and with a higher price (Adam Warlock) because of the BAF piece or general rarity.

Just curious on what everyone else prefers with these wave line-ups. Do you buy a line of characters you do not particularly care about because of the BAF pieces for a character you do want?

I actually like the trend of grouping the characters by team, book, etc...
The only thing that I don't like about it is that each of the new waves will most likely continue to be tied in to whatever Marvel movie is in theaters.
Because of that, those of us who are fans of Marvel characters and teams like Daredevil, The Punisher, Fantastic Four, etc... will most likely see our favorite characters ignored.

Since I mostly collect Legends based on Fantastic Four characters, the idea of a wave with a newly-sculpted F4 line-up (that actually look good when posed together, unlike SOOO many other of Hasbro's F4 Legends) would be a dream come true ! Not to mention, that would also open the door to a Legend of The Wizard FINALLY being made
However, with Marvel turning their back on the franchise, and attempting to distance themselves from the upcoming F4 movie, I don't see that happening any time soon

So, I guess, in theory, yeah, I like the idea of focused waves, but in reality, that practice will probably result in me buying a very small number of Legends in 2015.

I prefer the themed waves because I'm usually all or nothing depending on the wave. For instance I got most of the Spidey themed wave and all of the Cap 2 themed wave, but I completely skipped the Guardians wave (I loved the movie, but wasn't compelled to buy any figures). That gives me a break from going on toy runs searching for figures. If every wave was a mix of characters from all over the Marvel Universe, there would probably be one or two figures I would want from each wave and I'd be out hunting constantly.

I also love the FF and wish Marvel would stop dissing their first family. :'(

I'm going to have to go against the grain and say I liked the random assortments. For the same reasons sort of that other people liked the themed waves in a twisted way - if it's a themed wave you're not interested in it's a long wait for something that may interest you, whereas with a random assortment there was always a good chance there would be something in there of interest.

My take...

Hasbro has characters already made, but to produce they WANT to limit costs. So they mention, if they have 500 dollar budget, and five characters, they might have a big character which cost 200 dollars, so that leaves 300 dollars for four characters. So they will find cheap versions of a character to maintain their budget.

I also think, according the Glenn Webb(YouTube reviewer and customizer) that Hasbro instructs their employees to find the CHEAPEST versions of the characters, and that determines who gets made. Hence we get a 90's Jean and a Modern Cyclops.

So,as a recent collector myself, I have expectations and they usually fail to meet such as Movie Ronan and a movie Hulkbuster which are unlikely because Hasbro will not spend the cash to make. 20 bucks per figure and no real BIG Baf's is a big issue.

I hope what I typed all tied in to your questions. From my interaction from certain Hasbro employees, there are some reasons for their release schedule, but I think it's mainly LOWEST cost possible that determines waves and who gets selected.

I'm happy with the team like format, but I also enjoy the random waves. I will honestly buy anyone, that's who I am. I rotate my display constantly. One day, I hope to have a display room of some kind where I can display everyone. But for now, I rotate based on what's come out. I like having what looks like a team displayed when they come out.

I already have most of BAF figures. Everybody likes a good theme wave and the Spider-Man wave picks up the slack that the dedicated Spider-Man line left when it was discontinued.
