This concept for a Metroid-themed LEGO set by L-DI-EGO at LEGO Ideas could become real with fan support.

If this LEGO set gets 10,000 supporters on LEGO Ideas then it will be up for consideration for review by the LEGO team, and as someone who has a lot of passion for Nintendo merchandise I really want this to become an official set. Right now it's at 9494 supporters. ^^

It's very cool. But, even when they get 10,000 votes, LEGO immediately shoot down all Nintendo related projects. Even after doing the Mario sets. Typically won't even bring them to review from the last ones I've seen.

Why would they shoot it down after doing the Mario sets?

Could be a number of reasons. They don’t normally elaborate on items they don’t bring up for review.

Well it'd be a huge mistake not approving LEGO Metroid.

It probably has more to do with Nintendo. This is probably the 10th time I’ve seen a Metroid proposal. And there have been dozens of (very good) Zelda, Mario, etc. that never get to the review stage that have gotten well over the 10,000 needed votes. Nintendo probably won’t approve traditional Lego sets, hence why the Mario sets aren’t just regular building sets with Mario minifigures.

That's a terrible reason for them to not approve this set.

If they already know Nintendo won’t approve the set, then it’s the perfect reason to not bring it into review. They would instead move on something that they have a chance at making. Nintendo has traditionally been very picky about what toys can be done with their licenses.

Nintendo is a holy grail license for some companies. If Lego can get them to approve traditional sets, then they would be churning these out like they do Star Wars sets. They wouldn’t hesitate to push something like this to the top of their next review. They’re already going crazy with the Mario sets, putting out a bunch of expansion sets and add-ones.
