LEGO

While LEGO has been around, it seems, forever, in the 1980's the brand really soared. Releasing a variety of products. But the 80's marked a decade of major expansion into many new territories the world over. It also introduced the LEGO World Showcase, the LEGO Award and a whole lot more. Not to mention the myriad of LEGO products released in the 80's.

ZOIDS

A line that started as simple model kits and eventually turned into some of the most fantastic and complex model kits, action figures and PVC toys you could buy in the 80's. ZOIDs was developed by TOMY (now Takara-TOMY) and is now produced by various companies through licensing agreements with them. The line featured various mechanical beasts, dinosaurs, vehicles and figures. the original run started in 1983 and has run off and on to this day.

Had to go with Zoids, but I think this is a pretty evenly matched slugfest. I had some of both lines, but I enjoyed Zoids much more.

Ok, so I'm not from the 80s, so I have a legitimate question: they had ZOIDS back then? I thought they were from like the late 90's early 00's?

LEGO gets my vote because I'm still buying them and they were the expensive brand from my childhood that I wish I had more of. Now that they have licenses like Star Wars and Batman they're even better.

LEGO just has too much variety so anyone can fond something they like. If you take away the licenses from LEGO then Zoids might have a chance but I vote LEGO.

For your reading pleasure: Zoids - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

tl;dr → Zoids have a very similar history to Transformers in that they were part of a different toy line made by Takara in the early-80's that was rebranded and released in the US. It became much more successful under the new name and was re-introduced in Japan under the Zoids banner. The anime/cartoon and toy line in the mid-1990's was actually a re-launch of sorts.

Legos all the way. I had a crap-ton of these as a kid. And still have a box-full of those from my childhood.

I never saw many Zoids when I was growing up but I did have some other cool Tomy toys. Tomy was very creative with the mechanical movements . I still voted Lego.

Wtf kind of matches are these? Why would you pair one of the most popular toys in the world against a toy that only one in fifty people have even heard of? Really not fair pairings in this smackdown thing.

Lego, but I kinda wish I could vote for Zoids on this one. Some of the current Zoids designs are pretty awesome looking, but those aren't the 80's designs and I didn't even know Zoids was around in the 80's.

I voted lego. Have a feeling the final round is going to come down to Lego vs Transformers.
Although, given the first round and the way they bracketed heavy hitters together right off the bat (Transforemrs and Star Wars), it'll probably be TF vs Lego next round.
