I do like Kirk! I'm not a Next Generation fan (yet?) so won't buy Picard but I plan to buy Kirk. I think his face looks good and there seems to be enough articulation as well (which apparently is an issue with McFarlane).
People seem to wonder though how far into the line they will go and if we will get the whole bridge crew. I am also not sure I need another full bridge crew as I already have one. It will depend on what they look like. But you never can have too many Kirks!

What about Mezco? Too expensive for you? Sadly there is only Kirk, Spock, Mirror Spock and Sulu, no Bones even though he was shown. I wonder if we'll ever get him.

Definitely wasn’t me. I’m flattered if someone is using my toy photography, substandard though it may be. I only use Twitter for news and perspective, the trending section is just my “NOW WHAT” peep show into daily human lunacy. I don’t post my toy photos there, with one exception. And Funko retweeted my photo when I did.

My girl got me into Star Trek just a few years ago, so I’m a relative newcomer. I wasn’t crazy about the Next Generation at first and I can see why it might not be for everyone, but the exceptional cast overcame many of the limitations of its era. Picard, especially. The cinematography is rough in the first season, though.

I love Mezco’s figures, but I have too many other interests to drop that kind of money on one guy. They look exceptional, though, and I wish I could. Here’s hoping McFarlane slips Spock into the line. Aaaaand, unpopular opinion time, someone from Discovery?

I am a very late comer to Star Trek as well! I grew up in East Germany, we didn’t have that in the Seventies. I watched TOS for the first time in 2015. Haven’t come much further yet than the movies and also “Star Trek Continues”. “Gotham” kinda got in the way…

Ah, the Mega Bloks! I bought all the sets. In fact, these are the first kind of sets I ever put together. I used to play with bricks that were similar to LEGO in my childhood, but after the wall came down I never bought complete sets. I rather use my own creativity you know? But it was great fun setting up this bridge!









Oh but you HAVE to watch the original! I insist! I hesitated for long, thinking it would only appeal to those that grew up with it and that it would look dated, but I fell in love very quickly. The chemistry between the three main actors is amazing.

And some of the messages are still true today. It's also funny because I had watched Stargate SG-1 first so some things reminded me of that when in truth it was paying homage of course.

Plus, looking at the technology, how much they predicted! Self-opening doors and flip-flop phones only were invented because those that watched it as a child grew up and got inspired.

I'm behind this sentiment, 100%. All of my Lego instruction booklets sat in a desk drawer when I was a kid, and I built my own spaceships. Now nearly everything is licensed. I only buy one or two actual Lego sets a year, Mega Bloks are different because I mostly just collect their minifigures. They're addictive!



I think Data is in the next Heroes wave, though I don't suspect you have much interest in that character until you watch TNG. Spoiler alert for all the science fiction ever - the quirky robot is always the best character.

That's the aspect of Star Trek that compelled me to love it - it's so optimistic. Looking at the state of the world right now, it's very difficult to imagine their vision of such an altruistic future. But it's fun to think about.

I kinda thought the original series might be too campy for us and make it hard to sit through. But if one thing transcends any era's technical limitations, it's good acting. Shatner is a bit of a ham, but that's what I love about him. Okay, I'll find a way to make room for it! She got me into Doctor Who as well, but started me with the more recent stuff. We went back and watched some of the (much) older episodes, and it was a chore. So pre-80's science fiction is a tough sell for me. I know the premise well enough and don't need to go in order, do you have any particular episodes you think best represent the show? I'm no snob, give me any engaging science fiction story with characters I can connect to and I'm good. The Orville, which obviously takes many of its cues from Star Trek, is great. Mass Effect was my Star Trek before I'd ever watched the show, I see a lot of the parallels now. No other entertainment franchise has made me care so profoundly as those games. Mass Effect goes a little further then Star Trek's G-Rated alien relations, but the inspiration is very much evident. Gimme the good stuff, I'll try it. I am, without a doubt:

I do watch some TNG here and there when I catch one in TV, it just does not appeal to me. Everyone's just - standing around and talking. And talking. And talking. Nothing ever happens I hear they go to planets but I never see any. There was just more action in TOS, is all.

You bought the figures single, without any bricks? My figures came with the sets and they all have the same grabbing hands so they can hold phaser and communicator. No salute hand.

With recent you mean Moffat and Matt Smith / Peter Capaldi, or Russel T. Davies with Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant?
That's where I started as well, and have not gone much into the classic ones either - they are indeed slow. But now that I have become a fan of Sean Pertwee in "Gotham" I watch his father as Doctor number 3 and I enjoy it very much. So again it always depends on the actor. There's a reason why so many have him as their favorite Doctor. Most of his episodes are set on Earth though, as they had little budget.

So believe me when I tell you that TOS is not as slow as classic Who (although classic Who fans might protest now )

In the playset appreciation thread we talked about the Buffy library and it made me get it out and play with it. Here's the first batch of many more pics! Wolverine jumping at whoever enemy is standing there. Someone in another forum said that he planned to use the set as the school for gifted children and I thought that was a great idea.

I see there is one for $2,100.00 right now - okay, I did not mean THAT expensive. But between $200 and $400. Amazon has one for $449.99... I was lucky that I found a British seller and "only" paid £120, as it was without box. Shipping from America would be too expensive to Germany.

That was always something that bothered me about Star Trek in general, and why it took so long for it to catch on. The action was sparse, stiff and poorly-chreographed. That's what I suspected the original to be like, but if you say that's not the case, then? I'm open to it! As I said, I really loved the movies. (except the fifth one) And even the more recent J.J. Abrams stuff. I used to think those would alienate the purists with their many adrenaline-fueled sequences, nice to see someone with a level head about it. What about Discovery, then? There aren't too many singles, right now just Kirk, Spock, Picard, and Data. Oh, and a Borg Drone. I'd like to see them put out more sets in general, but Mega distributes their stuff a bit more slowly than Lego. I think the Spock figures are mostly identical, here's my salute one for reference:

And yes, we started with the Doctor's RTD run, Eccleston and Tennant. Things picked up for me once Matt Smith showed up being all eccentric and amusing, when the budget kicked in. But I enjoyed Tennant's run, as well. Twitch is streaming a seven week marathon for the entire series right now, but they're still on the early stuff. Bleh.

Pffffft, horsefeathers and poppycock! Good stories transcend gender interests. My female friends mostly connect to the same science fiction stories and games that I do. Our relative comfort in trading perspectives on who we banged in Mass Effect is how I knew that my girlfriend was the one for me.
Give me the good stuff, my favorite narratives are all the ones that engage me emotionally. I'm fun like that.

Indeed it's a salute hand! I just checked again to make sure but nope, mine does not have that. Nice variant!

I am missing two figures that came with the Enterprise model. I did not buy that, too big and too expensive. I believe those are Kirk and Spock in their dress uniforms.

Here is one of my very first Star Trek figure stories for you. I only had intended to do a pic with Kirk reading a book with his glasses. Like in "Wrath of Khan".

The figure was so new that I only had the variant with the red bloodstain on the chest and had to edit it out in white for the picture. Someone commented on how there was Stargate stuff in the shelf, and the story grew from there!
