I stumbled upon this list:

90s Toys | List of Nostalgia-Inducing Toys from the 1990s

I know it says "nostalgia inducing" but Kosh balls? Super Soakers I don't really see as a toy either...maybe I'm just a purist but for me a toy is more like the Ninja Turtles Play Set or a Polly Pocket (my personal fave) but a Tamagotchi is a video game...which I guess is a toy.

Anyway this list brought up more questions for me than nostalgia so I differ to experts!

Welcome to the board!

While I do consider waterguns and weird rubbery balls to be toys, I too dispute them being "greatest toys of the decade."
Koshballs are only memerable because Rosie O'Donnel loved them so much, and used them constantly on her show.
My personal choices, and are both biased and pure personal opinion:
Exo*Squad- An extremely innovative line... the e-frames were amazing toys, and both human and neosapians were the most posable toys Playmates have ever produced... ever. I stress... EVER. (I'm harping on this because Playmates is in a pathetic state right now, since their new Trek toys were worse than the ones they produced in the fuggin' NIGHTIES.)
Star Trek- great posability, great sculpting (It's important to remember, most toys based on actors now use computers to create the actor's likeness on the toy. These were still hand sculpted), great character selection.
Jurassic Park- These are sadly the best dinosaur toys ever made.
Late Generation 2: This began the path we're on now, in terms of posability.

and above all:
BEAST WARS. 'nuff said.

My favorites were the Batman: The Animated Series toys. Spent so much time playing with them when I was a kid.

If a blanket and a stick are considered toys, then Koosh balls and the like are too.

Admittedly I was on my way out of toy collecting at the beginning of the decade, so there's not much for me to call out as "best toy". Got back into it near the end of Beast Wars and the beginning of Beast Machines and was back in full time by the turn of the century with RiD (but it doesn't count as far as this particular topic is concerned).

Of the stuff I did buy back then, Beast Wars and G2 take the cake.

Edit: I forgot Toybiz' various X-Men toys! Though Beats Wars still wins out.

Real edit: Oops. I hit the "Quote" button and not the "Edit" button.
I wish this board let us delete our own posts.
