Nice, LA Confidential is one of my favorite neo-noirs.

I've been told it is THE definitive Neo-Noir, so I hope that is true. So far I have highly enjoyed Chinatown, Taxi Driver, Blood Simple, and To Live and Die in LA.

I go back and forth between it and Chinatown as my favorite. A lot of people don't like Chinatown as much because of the ending but to me (and many others) the ending is part of its noir perfection.

Yeah, the ending to Chinatown was great. I just need to actually go out and buy the movie at some point. Same goes for Nightcrawler, which was also incredible. I'm also excited that Mildred Pierce is getting released by Criterion next year since that is on my list of Noirs to see.

The Scarif Stormtrooper has just hit my area, in HUGE quantities, so I didn't feel guilty picking up two
![]() For those of you who are like me and are obsessive, to the point of neurotic, about paint, bear in mind that there is a LOT of variation between the "dirt" painted on each of these figures. They remind me of the Sandtroopers from early in the Black Series, where some looked fairly clean, and others looked exceptionally "dirty." Be careful, or you might find yourself obsessing over insignificant paint details like I did today ![]() I've been on the fence about this Leia figure ever since picking up the female Inquisitor figure. That figure had gummy "rubber band" arms, and was overall disappointing, so I was afraid that this figure, due it it's aesthetic similarities to the Inquisitor figure, might suffer from the same problem. However, I only saw a handful of Leias among the dozens and dozens of supposedly in-demand Chirrut Imwe and Orson Krennic 5PoA figures, so I figured I'd better snag Leia in case I never spot her (or at least another with good paint) again. ![]() EDIT : BTW, for those who are interested, the Leia figure is vastly superior to the Rebels female Inquisitor figure. Her arms are actually solid and don't feel as if they could fall off any second. Granted, she's not a great figure (IMO, she's barely on par with most of Hasbro's recent 3 3/4" 5PoA Star Wars figures), but at least she's not a complete disaster like the Inquisitor.

So yeah, LA Confidential was a good fucking movie!! My god this was amazing. All of the characters were great, it had some truly outstanding performances and jaw dropping moments, the soundtrack was blissful to the ears, and the over arching stories worked phenomenally. I know the director said he didn't go out to make a Noir, but he did, and he made one that is just as stellar as the likes of Double Indemnity, Touch of Evil, and The Maltese Falcon. I'm giving this masterpiece a 10/10.

![]() When I saw a box of them today, I began wondering if/when Funko will eventually start putting these in really cool, really elaborate vending machines, a la Japanese Gachapon machines, since they (and so many other smaller Funko figures, like Mystery Minis) are ostensibly the American version of Gachapon figures. I'm sure machines like that would seem needless and trivial to some, but I have fond memories of a comic shop I used to frequent in Florida that had a ton of TOMY Gachapon machines (always stocked with awesome figures), and recently, the G.U.Y.S. figures on Steven Universe have re-ignited my love of Gachapon figures, so I'd love to see machines like that become popular in larger retailers and shopping centers here in the U.S.

I still don't know how a garbage movie like Titanic won. Then again, Avatar was dog shit too and that...
Of course, it's not the first time the superior movie has lost out on Best Picture. Forest Gump stole the award away from both The Shawshank Redemption and Pulp Fiction. Gump is a great movie, but I watch the later two over every other year whereas I haven't watched Gump in 15 years.

So I went after the budget baf today. Hulk Buster is on clearance for $10 at Gamestop, then they're at Ross, and even for the same price at Big Lots. So I gathered them all and built what is literally my first Marvel BAF.
TRU just stocked all the new Predators, I really dug the Clan Leader but this guy is just plain awesome. It's not for me though, Ultimate Concrete Jungle is going to my nephew who's got a good amount of Neca Termintor figures but hasn't had any Alien or Predator action yet. |

Not as big as most hauls here on the forums, but I am super excited because I've been waiting on this stuff for what felt like forever. Most of this has been in my Pile of Loot from Big Bad Toy Store for months.
First is the Figuarts Injustice Harley Quinn. I'm really stoked about her. I spent about 30 minutes playing around with her and swapping parts and accessories and posing her. This is my first Figuarts figure and I'm impressed with the paint and articulation but she feels really fragile and I'm glad I only paid $35 for her since she's so tiny. The Icons Joker is nice but really frustrating we only got one left hand. I gave the crowbar to my DC Universe Joker. I've had the Concrete Jungle Predator on Pre-Order with BBTS since March but I canceled my order when I found 8 or 10 of them this morning at TRU. I was able to pick out the one with the least amount of paint flaws. He's already one of my favorite Predator figures. The Ultimate T-800 Terminator is decent but a little underwhelming. He isn't bad really, but I kinda wish I would have skipped him in favor of another Predator or Aliens figure instead. The Funko Harley Quinn Plushie is going to be an X-Mas gift for my Daughter, who's coming in the next week or so. The Arkham Video Game Harley Quinn is surprisingly really good. I was worried she'd show up with a bunch of paint problems, but she's as close to perfect as I've ever seen on a DCC figure. I found another one this evening at my local comic shop marked down to $5. I haven't decided what to do with her yet, but I couldn't pass up such a good deal. Finally I got the Hush 3- pack purely for the Scarecrow figure. I'm going to do a head swap with the DC Universe Yellow Lantern Scarecrow because I much prefer that head sculpt to the Hush Scarecrow. The 3-pack was $30 and I'm going to list the Nightwing and Ivy figures on evilbay to get back part of my money. |
