I've never played a Silent Hill game or watched the movies, but isn't his name just Pyramid Head, not Pyramid Head Thing?

Correct. It's either "Pyramid Head" or "Red Pyramid Thing." It's never been "Pyramid Head Thing."

The first four are absolute classics. Personally I've also got a fondness for Shattered Memories, the way the story deliberately used names and elements of the original but simultaneously shook them up felt clever to me (I've seen others who hated it for this though).

I'd say the movies are both complete skips. The first one starts out as a decently faithful adaptation of the original game, they changed the main character from being an adoptive father to an adoptive mother but this has no real impact on matters, but it totally falls apart by the end. The second is just bad. I will give both movies credit for using music from the games though.
