Monster in my Pocket.

Madballs seemed extremely pointless to me as a kid. And MimP got me into mythology, and I loved the little catalogues that came with them, the multiple colors, and the blind packs. As well as the semi-game the figurines had built into them with the ranks.

I vote MadBalls because I had a couple, not many. For the life of me I can't recall MimP, however reading your description they would certainly be something I would have been into. Strange. I look forward to pics of these!

They were little figurines, not unlike MUSCLE, or even the transformer decoys. Most of them were monsters from mythology, religion, and fiction. Such as Manticores, Roks, Cockatrice, Vampires, and Frankenstein's Monster.
Each type had a power rating. Like a Mummy was a 1 star monster, while the vampire was a 4 star monster.
Monster in my Pocket on Wikipedia

Edit:
I should double check my facts before relying on memory. It wasn't a 1-4 star system. It was a point system, from 5 points up to 30 points.

I remembered both, but I honestly liked Mad Balls better than I did MiMP. I was getting out of collecting toys back then (the dark times when TF's were gone, Star Wars was gone and Joes had gone batshit insane).

I guess Mad Balls were something different and I had had enough of little PVC guys after TF decoys and M.U.S.C.L.E. figures.

Even though Monster In My Pocket isn't technically an 80's line (first series says 1990 on the package), I voted for them anyway because I loved collecting little figs like Battle Beasts and M.U.S.C.L.E.s. I had all of the first, second, and the Super Scary series and they were given away! I really miss those little guys...

I remember the figures that MADballs did with the head (ball) shooting off the body when you hit the switch on the back. I think they did this in the cartoon to fight or something.

MIMP, really kept me engaged as a kid. I used to love reading the bios on each character and collecting the different versions.

next debate should be Mighty Maxx vs Polly Pocket lol.

If you combined both toys You'd have "Mad Monster balls in my pocket", lol.

Those nice little summeries Joe gave for the others would have certainly been nice for these lesser known lines.

I vaguely recall Monster in my pocket and having those and while I never purchased a Mad Ball I couldn't help voting for them because of the sheer number of ads in 80's comics they had and I'm always seeing them when I reread classics

Next day I sn ck into the class during my recess and liberated all the toys!! Gave my mates back their toys and chucked the toys of the kids I ddnt like. I was king for a day.

Mad Balls for the win...I also got in trouble in middle school for holding balls in my pocket ...

Juvenile humor aside, Monster in My Pocket was also a fav of mine...but Mad Balls were just too cool and colorful giving them the edge.
