I haven’t even seen this film yet but this figure looks great - Black Manta from the 2018 Aquaman movie!

He includes a few extra hands, an alternate extended blade for his left arm, an extended harpoon for his right arm, a sword, a dagger and four blast effects for his jetpack / thrusters.

No crazy eye-beam effect sadly

Pre-orders will go up shortly, release is June 2020. Price will be around 7800¥.

As if I wasn't already sold, they put in all those extras, from the speargun, to the jet boosters and even his family's heirloom (the dagger).

Pre-orders are going up! Official item page here:

MEDICOM TOY - MAFEX BLACK MANTA

Man this looks good. It’s hard as hell to justify buying it though – I never saw the movie, don’t know a whole deal about Black Manta but man, I love the suit design. Just the right kind of weird mixed with a whole bucket of awesome.

That's great, glad someone is hitting the movie, even if this will come out like 2 years after the movie.

Goddammit! Every time I think I'm going to have a dry spell where my wallet will get a chance to recover, someone announces something awesome like this. I love the movie version of Black Manta so this figure is a must-have for me. The only accessory missing is an eye beam effect, but that's no biggie. Regardless, it looks fantastic.

That said, this is MAFEX we're talking about, here. It'll probably get pushed back multiple times before it finally releases so take that June 2020 date with a few (thousand) grains of salt.

Yeah, God forbid a high end collectible company take the time to properly work on a figure instead of slamming a "concept art" figure down your throat in an attempt to catch the hype train.

I believe this is the part where you complain that it doesn't have an alternate headsculpt, because all of us are keen on displaying a Black Manta figure sans helmet.

This looks amazing, but I'm 50/50 on picking it up. I have the Dc Multiverse version and honestly it's a really nice figure. If this had an eye beam effects part or an unmasked head I might be more certain. It'll depend on what else is coming out around the same time.

Yes, I'm sure Mafex has been hard at work on this for the last 9 months straight. Geez get a grip.

Love it! But Mattel did a good enough job on theirs (now available for $5) that I don't feel a need to pick up the MAFEX version...

Mattel's Black Manta movie figure is one of the best figures they've ever done. Really impressive.

That fascinates me. What is it you collect instead? Marvel legends and the like?

Is it because you favor sculpt over articulation?

At what point is articulation "enough"? Like that Marvel Legends price point?

This is a great looking figure. Yet another example of how MAFEX is really stepping up their game lately. It’s pricey so it’s not for everyone but if you collect high end action figures this would be a nice addition to any collection. Even if you know nothing about the character from a strictly aesthetic point this is a cool figure. I think it’s got better detail and range of motion than the less expensive versions. While those look nice the MAFEX looks even better and will be easier to pose.

I know you weren't asking me, but I'll answer anyway, coz your comment made me think.

I think MAFEX and Figuarts often nail the sculpt AND have great articulation. It's not "Hot Toys" level, but it's also like printing a face on a dime. Sometimes I think the Japanese figures have too much articulation, and some of my official figures are just as floppy as a KO.

Joys of having a little sampling of everything is I get to enjoy figures from many different styles. Mezco, Hasbro, Mattel, Neca, Bandai, medicom… all have their strengths and weaknesses.

totally open question, I know there are a lot of people in that camp. Sometimes I'm like the odd one out. I never think "too much articulation". It's always not enough and I'm always waiting for more. I miss out on so many cool looking figures because I'm saving so much of my money for all the expensive stuff. More articulation, more $$$. It's tough.
