You're not wrong but this is pretty much a Jim Lee Cyclops anyway and he drew him pretty muscular. I remember comic shop talk around that time people were always complaining about that....."his nickname is slim! He shouldn't look like a bodybuilder!" That sort of stuff.
For me, I just prefer the muscular broad shouldered look on him because it resembles how he looked in my favorite piece of X-Men art ever, Akiman's Children of the Atom promotional artwork.

Anyone know the best place to import from? And that doesn't charge alot for shipping? I know a few are mentioned above which I'm looking at. Anything has to be better than the $100 BBTS has before shipping.

This Cyke looks top notch.

Why is he going to take basically a whole year to come out though?

Ok, seriously, what the heck is happening with prices in Japan? Seems like the tendency in toy companies is jacking up the prices to almost unreasonable amounts.
Was there like a super tax increase on plastic or something?

Yup, add shipping which tends to be expensive (between $13-$15 the least expensive one, I think)
Amazon japan goes for about $83 shipped.

the only thing about the mafex i dont like is the metallic blue
other than that this destroys the ML

ML was orange, has the weird outdated bucky body, oversized harness and leg straps which shift and gap.

HLJ has him for a good price $67, Anime-Export also does for $62 but you have to pay up front. Both have similar pricing for shipping if you're shipping one item, if you do SAL (slow) it'll be about $10-12 on top.

Mafex jacked their prices more than anyone. Figuarts and Revoltech are still about the same prices as a few years ago. I guess Mafex figured they need to actually pay money for people to QC their products and they jacked their prices way up. I paid about $35-40 shipped for their first Darth Vader a few years ago. Then all of the sudden their prices basically doubled.

Is Amazon Japan reliable to sell you an authentic item and not a knock off? I know Amazon US has that issue sometimes. Even if it's "shipped by/sold by Amazon".

It looks like Amazon Japan's only shipping option to the states is "Amazon Global Overseas Shipping (Premium)". Anyone know if that includes tracking ?

Unfortunately I don't think I'm much help. I've ordered one thing from Amazon Japan, it was special Nintendo tape for Nintendo Switch Labo, and it shipped just like any other amazon shipment, got an email when it shipped, and when it was out for delivery. Unsure if all shipments from Amazon Japan are that smooth or not or if when you order figures may end up getting some knock off crap.

Hmmmmm, when you compare the pictures side-by-side, the ML version's musculature and veiny-ness seems a bit ridiculous.

If Mafex has a better track record of fast-tracking figures for production and release and completing teams, I'd drop ML for X-men altogether and just wait for Mafex. Alas we're not quite there yet.

Curious to see them do a female X-men though. Perhaps Storm or Phoenix? Rogue? Someone easily recognizable in Japan. Psylocke too maybe. ML female bucks are just generally awful, and Hasbro's cost-cutting in terms of articulation when it comes to female figures is borderline insulting.

I would go ape for a Mafex Rogue, especially since I'm almost certain they will do a Gambit

The recent X-Men revival is bloody brilliantly but now it’s bumming me out a bit that just over a year ago I basically went on a toy binge and got the whole cast in either ML or MS form.

Now we’re getting legends updates, new Selects, Mezco interpretations, Revoltech are throwing out some craziness and Mafex are taking the lead with beauties like this.
I want a definitive X-Men collection so I’m probably gonna have to sell off all the stuff I recently bought (with the exception of the MS Juggernaught- no way is anyone topping that) to make way for all the greatly improved figures which are sure to be on the way.

So I’m inclined to just wait for Mafex to announce everyone. The only only problem I have now is which Gambit to ultimately stick with as I’ve alteady PO’d the Amazing Yamaguchi. That one looks incredible and the articulated clothing is actually a plus for once but Mafex will no doubt top it- and Mezco may even be one to watch even though I kind of hate that company.

I wouldn’t sell anything just yet. Someone posted this over on the Fwoosh forums after Cyclops was shown at Winter Wonder Fest in February and everyone began wishlisting their favorite characters from the Marvel Universe.

Quote:
Living between Asia & the US my whole life, let me provide some input -

First & foremost, we have to keep in mind that Medicom is a Japanese company that is catered to the Japanese (& rest of Asia) market, internationally second.

Though the 90's X-men animated series introduced Jim Lee's version of Cyclops to Japan, what really made him popular were his appearances in the 5 Capcom fighting games. Most importantly he has been the front man for a few of those games (covers, intros, etc) & had a long lasting appeal throughout the 90's & early 00's in the huge arcade scene in Japan. They might not know his name off the top of their heads, but anyone who's into collecting action figures in Japan will definitely recognize him instantly.

So is it surprising to release Cyclops so early on for a comic based Japanese line? Absolutely not, I'd personally expect it. Before the last 10 years of MCU, the popular Marvel characters (besides Spidey) Japan knew of were ONLY 90's X-Men. Since American comics aren't a thing over there, MCU versions of Iron Man & Cap would be the more well known versions. As for Daredevil? Extremely slim chance, close to zero. Deadpool has literally only been popular in Asia since the movie.

My prediction for future MAFEX releases would be - Iron Man, Magneto, Psylocke, Gambit, Storm, Captain America, Hulk, Deadpool, War Machine

Anyone care to comment on the quality of Mafex figures? I've never owned one before. Do they have a lightness to them akin to s.h.figuarts? Or a bit more weight like storm collectibles? Or somewhere in between?

I liked the look of the Venom figure when it was announced, but not enough to make me jump into a new line. Wolverine also looked good, but I have the ML version, so again I wasn't gonna jump in. But cyclops did it. Although I have the ML version which I pre-ordered thankfully and got for $19.99, I like this version too much. So now I've pre-ordered Cyclops from HLJ, Wolverine from Nippon-Yasan, and Venom from Plaza Japan lol.

I'd like to get the Spider-man figure but wow he has jumped in price! I can't pay more than $90 for a figure. Heck I'd rather not pay more than $60 - $70 but $90 would be my max.

ya i dont get how hasbro cant keep releasing the same terrible bucks for women over and over again. the gap between the legs and the hips. tiny lithe bodies with huge heads for powerhouse superhero characters is so stupid. and their refusal to use that ms marvel/rogue body more often. which is the best one they have

Never had issues before; and to be fair, given the release date, it is very unlikely that there will be a KO of the figure so early, I guess.

I was thinking the same. Its getting a bit crazy with all these xmen figures, which are also objectively really well made, especially if you are on a budget.

What makes this harder is that we dont actually know what each company has planned for, ultimately. So then its a bit of risk to wait as its somewhat common for these figures to sell out really fast, then double in pprice on the secondary market.

I'd say look at the current mafex roster for a female figure that looks like an x-men. They will most likely want to reuse a body like gwen pool or wonder woman.

I could see the form of wonder woman working with rogue or a jean grey maybe

.
I have the mafex 2001: Space guy and the comic amazing spidey. In my mind I have more mafex figures for some reason. Anyway they are both really great.

It's a bit like figma with the smooth joints. But it has a smoother overall look than figma. It's a bit bigger, sort of. Not as big as storm collectibles. Maybe a little extra weight. The quality actually feels the best out of all my figures. It's a really nice plastic and finishing process or something. Very minimal seams. If you have SHF and Figma, you need at least one mafex.

That said, there have been quite a lot of QC complaints on some of the older figures. It feels like almost every review has some kind of complaint. So watch a video on those old figures first.
They were a pretty new company so you have to excuse some growing pains. But, Mafex has been building the company, investing more in QC, and finding their identity. No QC problems with the figs I have. The spider-man is insanely articulated too.

For me, the SHF stars wars stuff looks and articulates better than the mafex. The DC stuff is only okay to me. Take a look at the after market. Lots of sales, nothing really inflated.

Thaaaat said, IMafex is shining bright when it comes these comic style figures. The comic spider man is expensive for a reason. It KICKS ASS. The articulation is great and its surprising how the smooth joints are able to hold the pose without smooothly collapsing.

Really good. Just got Spidey. See my signature for link to my blog review. I’d post a direct link, but the demon gods of moderation will tear out my soul and feed it to the worms.

I've got 3 Mafex Batmen, a Superman, a Wonderwoman, Joker, Harley Quinn, Deadshot and Aquaman, and they are all fantastic. Some of my favorite figures I own, and their quality has only increased with each release. Even though they are DC figures, they scale well with Marvel Legends, so imagine these X-Men figures will as well.

Oh yeah I have Alex from A Clockwork Orange too
