Agree, What's the retail price of Legend's, around $16.00 a fig. Their more than twice the size of Universe. And I don't think as many people collect them.
As for kids, wouldn't they want toys that could fit with and in all their Joe and Star Wars shit. I just don't see how Universe is so expensive that they couldn't do a MUCH BETER JOB!!! Waited hours to see what's new... Apparently nothing. I really don't like you today Hasbro... I've also realized that many of us who grew up in the 80s share a fondness for 3.75 scale, but kids nowadays can care less. There is no nostalgia involved for them so introducing them to Legends is not a bad move. They cost more and thus provide more revenue. Their aftermarket value is incredible and will now only rise. If u guys can't see through that, you are blind by fever. Last edited by SH0CKWAVE; 07-14-2012 at 05:28 PM.. |

Really, how much more stuff can they keep showing/announcing while there's such a backlog of unreleased figures?? From a business perspective, it's stupid for them to keep making prototype with a year of inventory ready to go. We still have (drumroll please) Nighthawk The MoE set ALL of waves 18 and 19 New AvX comic packs Old Man Logan exclusive (not some crappy repaint- YEAH!) Electra Emma Frost Collusus-Juggernaut Inhumans boxed set That Giant Ultimo Pending stuff like the Black Knight, Masterson Thor, Thunder Frog, etc. Really, there's a minimum of 25-30 figures that have not hit retail in any way and we're still worried about the line?!? That's three times the number of ML figures announced and no one is saying "The sky is falling!" over that line... I think our love of MU (and big reveals at prior shows) has colored some of our expectations- and the occasional doomsayer that promounced the line dead only feeds into our dread that, in spite of all evidence otherwise, the line is ending. Really, unless they officially announce something, lets go with what they actually said- that the line was pushed bak because of The Avengers and it should be easier to find new upcoming stuff. that's where you are wrong, bro. Legends crowd has been around for a while and they're still out there, loving the news. As a new ML collector, I am excited... but bummed to see the broken 3.75" hearts all over this thread.

If u guys can't see through that, you are blind by fever. Legends is a great collector line, but it doesn't have the mass appeal smaller figures do to both kids and collectors. When kids play, they do a lot of cross line usage too, so equal scale to all pays off in the long run. Sure when younger bigger is whatever to smaller, but once kids reach that 6-10 mark they start wanting even scales. Last edited by Snowflakian; 07-14-2012 at 05:32 PM.. |

I'm not agreeing that MU is coming to an end, but I can say that I feel better in my decision to get rid of the majority of my MU collection now. I lost interest with Hasbro not putting out enough product and now it looks like that trend is going to continue. |

I have to disagree. ML is and always will be a bigger market than MU. ML was here first and has been around since 2002. There's TONS of spin off lines that outnumber the 4'' movie lines as well. Overall, as good as MU may sell, it is still not the bread and butter of what the majority of collectors really want.
Of course I think MU owns ML in nearly every way, but the truth is that ML is more popular.

If u guys can't see through that, you are blind by fever. Hasbro is always talking about how excpencive the MU line is when they are 1 3rd the size of ML and only 1 3rd cheaper. That seems like a freaking win win to me. I know there's more to it but the main issue seems to be getting their shit out. If they wanted to hold off on retail because of the Avengers hype, then what they should realize is they could sell online for a slight markup. keeping the shelves clear for movie crap and still distributing MU waves online. Collectors will pay a little more to get it sooner and other will wait for retail release. It's the age of the internet. They need to get with it. The demand is there and as they said the figures were held up because of barcode BS. So put them up on HTS and let it ride. Once the problem is fixed and Avengers hype is gone, they can slowly trickle in to the stores. I've never seen an industry that ignored demand as much as the toy industry. Back in the day I could understand some of the logic in their decision making. But now with the internet, It's just retarded BS. |

ML is great for collectors.
For kids and collectors though, MU is better. (Not saying collectors shouldn't buy ML, to each their own, just pointing out some key factors why MU is better for kids and collectors with limited space.) You've got cross pollination of lines because kids do that anyway. You've got vehicles that take up about as much space as two ML figures but cost less. You've got GI joe shield bolsering that can help expand how kids play or collectors display. On top of it all, let's look at the average parent. You've got 100 bucks to spend on your kid for marvel stuff in the winter holiday season. Do you: A. get them as much MU as you can which is anywhere from 10-13 figures. B. Get them 6 maybe 7 ML figures. I don't know about you, but A. seems more lucrative. Especially if they are getting other figures of that scale for the holidays. Sure while younger bigger doesn't matter, but when they hit that 6-10 mark, kids want even scales for playing what they see on tv or creating their own stories. Both have decent resale values, but ML is nigh impossible to ever find the variant you want for a decent price. Like Blue Flame ghost rider that never even hit my area. Legends use 2X as much material(plastic, paint etc) cost $15 MU cost $9. ML cost more to make.( Why do you think there is no 6' Starwars line.Simple. MU sell more units ,takes up LESS retail space( which retailers love) is MORE in demand than Legends. I dont know how they can justify this as a revenue based decision. Only thing I can think of is they have gotten so far aheadt hey have to cool it for awhile(1 year, I hope).
