I'm not getting on any train or saying what the guy is doing. Just stating a fact. If an employee is found to be abusing their staff discount they get terminated. I don't have the employee handbook from jobs I haven't worked at in years but I did work for two major electronics retailers and both had a very clear cut policy on it. It was a couple of pages of guidelines about the discount so there is nothing mystical about it. I know not every store offers a discount to their employees so it may not be and issue for some people.

Yet again....I've never seen or been shown anything in writing or a hard copy. It's always heresay.

No you won't. Collectors are never really truly 100% content. That's Collector Nirvana. It exists in theories, books, and on cave walls in Canada.
