I have an off topic question,I dont use ebay that much so anyone who uses ebay can you answer this,when a seller ships do they have to send a tracking# or will it give you one automatically when the item ships?

They don't have to send tracking, but if they ship it via the ebay/paypal/usps shipping service, it tends to automatically update you if they do use tracking. Most people use tracking regardless just because it gives everyone a sense of security.

That and you get the "seller protection" from ebay when you do the tracking confirmation. It's actually cheaper to do it through them, than go through the clerks at the Post Office.

well I bought an item on christmas day and on my ebay page it has an icon of a box and it said shipped on the 27th yet there is no tracking #,I paid for priority,now I also bought something the next day and it was also shipped the 27th first class yet I got that item today but still nothing from the priority item,I asked for a tracking # but the answer I got was it was sent the other day priority?does this seem odd?again I only ask because I dont usually use ebay.

A tracking number is purchased separately so it is the responsibility of the seller to buy it and add it to the eBay listing. Now if the shipping is purchased through eBay (something I've never done) than it may be included automatically.

yes but I thought all priority items automatically came with a tracking number.

It's based on the way the seller ships it. I go through ebay/paypal, it's easier and a little cheaper. The person must have taken it to the post office and done it that way, I would message him asking for a tracking # although there are times when I've messaged them and they don't respond at all but I end up with the package. I say if you don't get it by Tuesday the latest open up a case.

I personally ship first class as well through ebay, it's a lot faster, but you can only go up to 13 ounces after that you have to use Priority.

well I guess what I am asking is if this seems like its legit or not,the estimated arrival date was today or tomorrow but I found it odd that the item that was sent first class showed up first and was shipped the same day,you guys keep saying through the ebay/paypal shipping,is that different,I though you still had to go to the post office to ship something,no?and the other thing is I have 3 other items bought,all are shipping first class and have DC #'s yet this priority one does not,that is what led me to believe it automatically gave you one when you ship.

I'm sure it's legit, all you have to do is check the seller's feedback.

If the seller ships using Ebay and prints out the slip through them, than it does give you a tracking #. From there all the person has to do is drop it off in a USPS box, and you don't necessarily have to take it to the post office clerk, unless you want to make sure the weight is accurate. But it looks like the person who shipped it using priority must have done it the "old school way". Keep in mind, the seller may have marked ship on ebay, but doesn't necessarily mean he actually shipped it. I've had that happened to me before, he marked shipped on ebay, but he didn't actually ship it until 2 weeks later.

wait what!!!???so your box icon on your bought history page said shipped but it really wasnt?how is that possiable?I was under the impression if it says shipped it was.

That's correct. All you have to do in Ebay is mark "Ship" and than it high lights that box and sends a notification to the buyer. But it doesn't technically mean they shipped it physically.

Ebays not perfect, sucks for the seller's really because they're the ones who can get shafted by the buyer. I spoke with an Ebay rep. and they said "the seller's represent Ebay as a company" which is kind of a joke. And for a buyer you're pretty much protected when it comes to buying stuff.

yeah, i've bought and sold on ebay and i tend to print the shipping slip via ebay which marks the package as shipped on the spot. just bought a figure off there a few nights ago and was notified it was shipped an hour later. i just wish the tracking info for first class mail was updated more frequently.

Yes the tracking is all on USPS, which does suck because it's not always up to date on where it is. But I guess that's the price we pay for their service.

well if I dont get it in the time it was estimated in on ebay what do I do since this person seems to not have a DC# being I tried to get one from them 3 times now and paid for priority shipping?

I have no clue why someone wouldn't provide a tracking number, but you can skip it when selling on eBay. The seller could have marked the item as shipped and never entered tracking.. it's an option.

I sell on eBay sometimes and always enter tracking,.. it benefits the seller more than anything else. If your package doesn't show up, just file a claim,.. since there's no tracking you'll win in a heartbeat.

Personally, I'd just wait about a week at this point and if it doesn't arrive by then, just file the claim. You never know what's going on with someone, especially right now,.. it's the holidays, people are busy & forgetful.

If I list something, I note that the handling time will be about five business days, yet there's always some boner who will email me and second after they paid (usually someone who waits days to pay too) asking when it will ship, and then they email daily asking for updates. Those get ignored by me. Not saying your issue is the same, and you should be ignored, but you never know what's going up on the seller side.

well in all fairness I paid up front,the seller has that they usually ship 2 days after payment received which is how it is marked on my purchase history,it says they shipped the 27th,BUT why should I wait a week?I paid for priority so can I file a claim if its not there in the estimated time?its only fair being I already paid and have asked for a DC#,no?
