So here's the almighty question for major comic collector's out there, does your LCS still buy/trade in credit for comics that you have?

Only 1 out of 6 LCS in my area takes trade. The rest don't trade or offer cash any more because of the economy is there excuse.

I tried trading in my WWH and they only took half of the entire line, tried taking it to the other places no go. Can't even really sell it on Ebay either.

Have any of you guys tried too or thought of it?

Not so much for trade, but I've thought about selling my collection a bunch of times.

Unfortunately, about 80% of my collection is from 2001 and newer, so none of it is worth the paper it's printed on.

Comics just don't retain value anymore. You're either buying them for the story or you shouldn't be buying them because you'll likely NEVER get your $4 back.

Especially now that digital is beginning to really sink in. People who just wanted to read that story can for much cheaper and don't have to worry about storage or resale, so there's a potentially huge loss of customers who buy older books out there. Couple that with the trades option, and the bin diving of the past is virtually killed.

I think the only way you can really get rid of them is either selling your entire collection to someplace like Mile High Comics or just flat-out donating them to a children's hospital for charity.

True enough, I may end up switching to digital as well when the Dr. Doom Exclusive comes out. Great points too because you're right they don't really sell. Although Uncanny X-Force seems to sell well on Ebay I've been noticing, other than that it's a sad sight.

Also with Marvel digitizing they're older stuff it makes even worse for LCS as well.

Donating them could be a good route to take, but if they're going to a children's hospital be careful what you're handing over. You don't want to accidentally give some kid a copy of The Boys - Herogasm #2 or something. Anyway, if you really want to unload them because they're taking up too much space or something, maybe you can give them to Goodwill, that way you still get a tax write off.

I don't have comic shops like that around here. There is a giant store that moved into the local mall where Borders used to be though, its called V-Stock. Apparently they buy comics, figures, movies, cds, games...etc.

Mine does, but it doesn't.

They'll buy extremely valuable or hot stuff, but not everything. So it varies a lot. Really depends on what they have already. (If they have it, or have a lot of it, and it's not moving, they don't want it.)

My LCS is run by a person that doesn't know anything about the product they sell

"Hey, will you be carrying more DC Universe Classic figures in the future?"

Answer: "Oh, like Spider-Man and Captain America?"

Frank and sons is like if eBay were a physical place you could walk to with buy it now prices only, except you pay with your soul.

I should send you my WWH and see if they'll give you in store credit or something =) I'm just trying to get back boards for my comics.

Can you PM any comics in LA that will actually take trade? Next time I visit I may bring them there.

From what I've heard from a buddy of mine, they pretty much rip you off in order to have good prices. Sorry.

My store does, also I took some Pathfinder books and the new DC rpg there last weekend and he gave me some of both.

What is the big thing over digital? I like the paper in my hands where I can feel it not electrons.

Same reason why I don't get Dungeon or Dragon anymore.

Do they take trade? That's the only way I can make my local Frank and sons pay, by trading them stuff I got on clearance, lol.

Agreed, I love the paper too, but with the space and cost, going digital has been tempting. I should send you my WWH to trade for me:P

4 Color does 60% for trade and 40% cash. I just did a combo deal myself and got a bit of both. Picked up some old Iron Man from the eighties and put gas in car (also a little Taco Bell too)
