I call out scalpers only when I see it actually happen. When you see a guy and his gf clearing the pegs of every ML back when wave one was first released and then do the same with comic packs from MU and you call them out and say dude can I just grab one out of the four of the same figs you got in your cart and he tries to sell it to you instead before he's even paid for it....That's a fuckin scalper and if you don't just grab it out of his cart at that point and say "fuck you, do something", at that point, then you might as well just give him your wallet.
Lol, please don't have fights in the aisle of TRU, I knew the guy wasn't going to do anything about it so I called his bluff. But the point was I wasn't gonna let him be a complete douche with me there. I got my figure out of his cart...and instead only got raped by TRU who sells ML for $18.99. Victory? This is not an exaggeration, true story that has happened twice for me and once by Symbiote, but Symbiote already had the figs he was planning to scalp he was just appalled that he finally watched it happen.

To me, scalpers are the guys at Frank & Sons. They fit the description perfectly. I don't see anything wrong with grabbing some figures and selling them on eBay to make a profit - I mean, we can actually help support our hobby with that extra cash. If I come across something of value, sure I'll grab more and try to make a few bucks. I don't see anything wrong with that. There's nothing wrong with making a profit, but there's something wrong with depriving every other collector out there of something they really want. Someone that drives to every single store within a 50 mile radius simply to grab all of something with the sole intention of reselling it at a huge markup... that's a scalper in my book. I sell stuff on eBay too, but I help out Arkers when I can as well.
I can understand that the manufacturers are at fault for poor distribution, but I can honestly say that there are extreme scalpers in the LA area. Out of all the hunting I've done over the past few weeks, I wasn't even able to spend more than $100 on buying stuff at retail because I couldn't find anything. Then you go look at eBay or go to Frank & Sons - you'll find a whole bunch of sellers from Los Angeles that are selling crap for outrageous prices. And that same crap is the stuff I am never able to find anywhere. If people are willing to buy it, then that's on the buyer. I can't blame the seller for the buyer's idiocy. However I can blame the seller for grabbing ever friggin' item off the pegs and leaving nothing for anyone else. There's really nothing I can do about it, though, because people will do whatever they want to do regardless of what I have to say about it. Do I feel a little better when I talk smack about scalpers? Yeah, somewhat. At least I know why I can't find something and I get to vent about it. Thankfully, I have this site to retreat to when a hunting day goes bad. There will normally be someone on here that's willing to lend a helping hand and relieve my stress.

I've sold stuff on here before and ended up losing money when the shipping cost more than anticipated. I try to hook people up with the stuff that seems to be Canada only but I do think a lot of Arkers feel entitled to "cost+shipping" and they think cost is just the retail price not even including tax. I got to make a dollar or two on a figure for my time. Heck, when I get Galactus for people I only make about $3.50 on it as I round up to the nearest $5 mark at that price. I could just put the stuff on ebay and have that money for my own collection.
I have a problem with scalpers when they make it hard for me to find things at retail by buying all certain items. That CREATES a high price on the secondary market. We see it with figures of popular characters that are slow to come out, even if they will be plentiful later, like the new MU comic packs. Someone will always get it early and try to sell it for a high price on ebay. That leads to others jumping to conclusions that said item is rare, which makes them grab all of up when they see it on shelves thus creating an artificial price. Once a ton show up ebay at least the crazy high prices come down a bit but because someone paid $50 or $60 last month why won't they pay $25-$30 now. This rarely happens with repaints of common figures or characters that aren't desired. Somewhat on topic, what is a fair price for the SDCC X-Force 3-pack and Fantomex unopened? |

If I manage to get the ML X-Force pack for a fair price in October at toyfair... I will get Fantomex for sure. If I don't, I will get fantomex anyways and just put him in his plain white costume!

As far as the SDCC X-Force 3-pack, I wouldn't pay more than $100 for it. That's roughly about $33 a figure when the original price was $50 (or $17 a figure). if you are patient, look for auctions that end at odd times of the night. Auctions ending between 12AM and 3AM PST, from my experience, are the way to go. I won 1 for about $80, a 2nd one for $88, and I just recently acquired a 3rd one for $98. No, I'm not planning on scalping them to turn a profit. I traded one with another Arker, FriskyDingo, already. The one I just got in the mail today will be traded as well. Quote:

It doesn't seem like he's real popular so far (in comparison to Miles) but if anyone sees any extra 6" movie Lizard figs at their Wally World and wants to pick one up for me I'll totally buy it from ya.

Thanks guys. I've heard of it, but never watched it. I guess I'll try to find it on Netflix now.

Good movie, stoner/drug movie meets tarantino movie. Amazingly shot especially the bowling scenes. I recommend giving it a watch.
