Considering they are doing Aunt May with Doc Ock I wonder if they will also give us Uncle Ben with Spider-Carnage down the line?

Well frankly "wasting a slot" is in itself an implication that you believe there's something better they could/should be doing instead, and given that this is an animated line and Doc Ock in this appearance is like #2 on the most desired costume list for the character, literally the only response to that is "ok, who?" Who would be better here? What amazing underrepresented character is more deserved a figure here in the subline that's tailor made for this specific style of Legends figures?
Also when exactly did the collector fandom at large decide that if something didn't sell out then it's a "miss"? Like I see the "sellout or shit" mentality a lot around here especially, but it's like why is that the only two metrics left anymore to judge success with people? Like is the figure really so terrible if that figure sells but not to the point where I can't just hit "Add to Cart" at anytime and instead have to either pay triple on eBay unless I decide to fight scalpers or have to stab some guy in Walmart's parking lot just to get it? I don't know but I think there's a middle ground and other metrics to ultimately judge success there, but availability =/= bad. Anyway, I clearly think you're wrong about this two pack selling well, which is why I'm going to put in my order right away tomorrow. That way even if you are right and it doesn't pre-sellout, I'm safe either way. I can totally see a retro card Spider-Man with Doc Ock tentacles put out well within 10 years from now, it is a very easy cash in for Hasbro now, along with the #1 requested Armani suit Doc Ock sooner or later. As for “selling out,” to me, I can’t speak for the others with whom you are conflating me, it’s a simple measurement of interest. Nothing scientific, or peer reviewed (as if it needs to be). When there’s interest in something those things tend to sell out and they become unavailable. As far as I know, specific metrics don’t get shared for the retail of MLs (or any lines), leaving us to use observations at our disposal. I’ve been paying attention to the animated line, despite only owning three to four of them. I was surprised that it took so long for Jubilee (I assumed the high secondary market price would drive interest) and Wolverine to no longer be available on Pulse. Something that that only seemed to become the case after holiday sales initiatives. The only three animated figs that have demonstrated enough interest to sell out on Pulse have been Venom, Jubilee, and Wolverine. They don’t seem to be hitting the way Hasbro had intended because if they did, they’d be as scarce as Skrull Soldiers and Hellfire goons. Hey, man, Hasbro really doesn’t need a defense force (especially an unpaid volunteer one) and, believe it, or not, I’m far from the apoplectic type as it regards Hasbro’s missteps. You can think I’m wrong about how well this will sell, that’s fine, there’s no horse in this race for me (there never is), but I will always want something ‘new’ before something ‘rehashed’ and that includes my most wanted rehashes like Beta Ray Bill. Good luck with your 2Pack and getting the rest of your Octo people. I’m waiting for Will O’ the Wisp, Carrion, Black Tarantula (and apparently another Tarantula with black cowl), Man Wolf, etc. |

It’s does look like it’s absent in these photos. However, it also looks like it could be rubber. There are a couple of new articulation experiments going here, most notably with Miles. I’m also not feeling that Miles.

I'm excited for several of these (but not... all... naturally).
I'm definitly plunking down for the updated Spider-Woman (and Skrull Queen) but yeah--that re-used voluptuous-style torso has terrible upper-leg articulation (she may be a Spider hero, but she'll be less flexible than your grandpa!). The Thor and Destroyer armor looks good! Hawkeye's speeder is something I didn't realize I needed until I saw it. I WISH: we'd get a Doc Ock from Into the Spiderverse (his daughter)... I don't think any adult collector line has released her. Could Haslab be a Quinnjet? (It would have to be huge... maybe a smaller vehicle they used in some comic book or another?) |

I'm not picking sides here as I understand both points, but Smythe is hands down the "who" you are asking about.
He has never had a legends figure and is a staple character on the show. I would have picked him over every other character from the show to headline the subline. It would also generate sales if two previously unreleased characters were sold in a two pack! I hate seeing new stuff with pins, but hate seeing reduced articulation way more!! Quote:
Yes, in my estimation, every animated figure is a waste of a slot since they’re largely reissues. To answer your question, I’d prefer, quite literally, any figure that hasn’t been done over something I’ve already purchased. That should be pretty easy to understand. And while the animated Ock look is a new sculpt, it’s a look that I’m not convinced is more coveted than the classic version, with wire tentacles, that many remarked would make the two previously released Ocks perfect. That said, I’m curious about this poll regarding most requested Doc Ock looks. Please share, or point me to where I can see the entrants, as I’m honestly not familiar and would like to see what ranks where for Otto and a number of others.

Good luck with your 2Pack and getting the rest of your Octo people. I’m waiting for Will O’ the Wisp, Carrion, Black Tarantula (and apparently another Tarantula with black cowl), Man Wolf, etc. But this is the animated series VHS line, there is no spot to take from a new character. Although, Aunt May IS a new character, but not really the point. The point is where Doc Ock in this costume belongs. And I also argue, that since as you said this is usually a low effort line for Hasbro, that the tooling budget saved and revenue generated from these sublines is a great thing. It will keep the line strong and bring in the funds to make more original offerings like Man Wolf someday. Anyway I don't have poll numbers anymore than you have sales data, it's just based on what I've seen across the web ever since the retro cards for Spider-Man became a thing. People have been asking for this Doc Ock, they said as much on the Livestream, and now he's here. With some overdue new tentacles to boot. And anyway, I don't defend Hasbro, they make plenty of missteps (the price of this set especially will be unpleasant). I just defend this release from being one of them. Quote:
What's really weird, though, is how some people always go into threads on toy message board of all places trying to be funny by using terms like "Hasblow" and just generally being rude to others. But I suppose it's like they say, "if it at first you don't succeed..." |

So what is up with all of the ugly Spider-Men they revealed. One looks like Prowler, one resembles some bad 80s workout atire, and the other appears to be the Doc Ock Spidey? I think.

The Black Widow new female body with butterfly joints makes me very, very happy.
I want more of these announcements than I don't want, and it's been a few years since that happened.

Touché. But I think Doc Ock was just first, if these stay successful, we're likely going to see Smythe alongside Chameleon and Morbius in their show appearances.
See, if this were the regular Spider-Man retail wave, I'd agree with you. I'd rather see a Carrion before another version of Doc Ock (or two Ben Reillys and a Miles for the that matter, but such is fate). But this is the animated series VHS line, there is no spot to take from a new character. Although, Aunt May IS a new character, but not really the point. The point is where Doc Ock in this costume belongs. Nah, just having a conversation. Forgive me for liking a Hasbro product I guess. What's really weird, though, is how some people always go into threads on toy message board of all places trying to be funny by using terms like "Hasblow" and just generally being rude to others. But I suppose it's like they say, "if it at first you don't succeed..." Fair enough, I got what you were saying from the start. I used to try to make sense of the shell game Hasbro plays with slots and character selections while leveraging different fan wants. I did what you are doing until things didn’t make sense and it became obvious (to me) that these adjunct offerings - lines within a line – are a distinct part of the problem and creating schisms in overall vision. There’s the canon line, the animated line (including 90’s animations for Spidey/X-men/FF/Iron Man and Disney Plus’ What IF?), the MCU/live action line (Films and TV), the retro line, a video game line, and an on/off again ‘riders’ line all under the ML banner. I imagine you might be thinking, “what’s the harm in this? – the more, the merrier.” Which I’d agree with if Hasbro maintained some sort of consistency throughout, but they’ve delivered these brainstorms in fits and starts and most of us (even well-heeled ML collectors) have no clue what’s going on. (FYI I’m pretty certain I’ve said this before in a similar discussion years ago) Just as we get used to something, Hasbro disregards whatever logic they’ve established. We get animated in retro, canon anchoring MCU, and vice versa. Hasbro excited fans by reviving the legendary riders series only to deliver this highly anticipated Hawkeye three years after Punisher, Cosmic Ghost Rider, Ghost Rider, and Squirrel Gril – sorry, I’m not really excited now, especially with this feeling like an afterthought - and looking like one; please leave the soft goods alone, Hasbro. Consistency and vision are even more important now with enduring supply chain disruptions due to the lingering pandemic and an MCU (the engine that drives the car) still struggling to regain its footing with movie goers. Cleaning up some of these muddied lines (maybe even ridding themselves of a couple) and locking in characters of consequence (which, to be fair, includes Otto) with high profile looks will be key moving forward as it’s canon collectors that are potentially driving the bus now that the films are floundering. I'd love to get that Aunt May/Doc Ock two-pack, but it would be pointless since Hasbro refuses to re-release that original retro Spidey. The cell-shaded version doesn't count.

I take back what I said about Bucky Cap and Barnes' bionic arm. I checked my RoML version and the initial comic media and his bionic arm was concealed when he took up the mantle. I'm looking forward to Bucky more than I thought I would.

I’m surprised that animated Doc Ock figure is not nearly as desirable as the classic comic version. This is my absolute favorite version. Well, I’m lucky and just happy they decided to make this guy into a 6” action figure, and I secured a preorder of him and Aunt May, no problem.

With them actually doing a new body for Ock I’m hoping an animated Vulture is also in the cards.
