I hate this trend on ebay, to the point it makes me want to pm the sellers. This is the worst of the worst when it comes to scalping. I can see someone knowing a figure is rare and making a few extra bucks, but when you take an entire line that is rare and expensive and make it even harder to find and pricey by dismanteling the figures and selling individual pieces and leaving a completist to pay $50 for a shiny box.

I think the thing that has me laughing the most is that the seller has TWO available. He thinks he'll be able to sell a box for $50 not once, but twice!

The only use I can see of this is if a customizer want to make a custom box for his ne 1/6th-scale creation.

Beyond that, I'm mystified by the idea of anyone bidding on or buying this.

I can understand some of the logistics behind it.. for people who are 1/6th collectors/dragon collectors it make sence sometimes to spend 20-50 for a super detailed hot toys headsculpt example tony stark, if you already have a figure wearing a suit, you end up with a cool figure for less then the $200 hot toys was asking. But how can a box, an empty cardboard box help me in anyway?! someone is selling a hot toys used iron man box for $50 figures everybody should have a good laugh as well as put in their 2cents about this disassembley process.

Why does what another person want to buy or sell bother you? Not trying to be rude or anything..just genuinly curious why some people get so bent about things that have nothing to do with them. I would question somebody wanting to "bitch slap" you for paying $30 for an action figure too ..so its not personal! :-)

Hot toys is 1 of the most sought after and collectable lines atm, and the figures are expensive to buy when first released, let alone after they sell out and scalpers jack the rate to double or tripple, or break them down piece by piece. I think in some ways it's cool to be able to buy some pieces if you want to make customs, but because the figures are so limited I'd like to see them get sold as a whole. IMO. It's like taking a rare gi joe and selling someone the figure and someone else the weapons. as a completist and a collector I like to figures stay together with all their pieces and original items.

Due to the nature of collectibles in box being worth more, I totally understand the idea of selling an empty box. Boxes get damaged, get lost, get thrown away by girlfriends wives and parents, and someday that Hot Toys figure will have higher resale if you have a box. Being someone who has all the boxes to any vehicles or large figures I've ever purchased, but a few fell through the cracks, I'd buy an empty box on ebay. BUT... not for $50. The price is high.

$50 for plastic doesn't sound a whole lot better

It's rare that I keep a package, but there are some. If the toy/figure/whatever was pricey, then I usually keep it. A few examples..

-TF Masterpiece boxes
-SDCC boxes
-MOTUC boxes

I'd never pay $ for a box though... and if anyone wants to buy a box from me; PLEASE PM me.

Yeah same here. I kept swamp thing's box and the paper mache skull case. It was nice, but I might get rid of it. It's taking up space.

Yeh man, lots of the Chinese sellers who have individual Hot toys parts buy the figures, sell every part loose including the box and I've seen the boxes for $30-50+, sad thing is some buy it as they'd rather piece the figure together then shell out the $2-300 at once.

Hi, thread from 2011! How have you been? Good, I trust.

But seriously, I understand the value of a toy box when the item in question is more valuable in it. I keep the boxes to my more high-end toy purchases as well (MP's, SDCC exclusives, other store exclusives).

And it's not like this auction is representative of an exclusive phenomenon with Hot Toys, either. This happens with Transformers too. A G1 Fortress Maximus box with foam insert runs about $100-$200 on its own, depending on condition.

What I am still amazed by, even a year later, is that this particular box is supposedly worth at least $50. Oh, well, at least the seller's offering free shipping.

This thread reminds me about the SDCC UXF box up on ebay right now.

http://http://www.ebay.com/itm/SDCC-...item2c66fcd51f

Granted, he started the bid at $0.99. When I saw that though, I was bummed. I tried all last week to get it but was unsuccessful.
