How come Diamond can make all these great figures and Hasbro can't. The Minimate selection is pretty awesome. Although I don't think I would switch from MU to Mini. The thought is there and tempting...

Minimates are more of a niche market, so it's much easier to cater to collectors that way. MU is a mass-retail product, so Hasbro's character selection has to find a balance between collectors, the general public (kids/parents), and whatever Marvel's been promoting recently.
Having said that, I'd really like to see more of the original X-Force done in MU as well as New Mutants. Maybe a future 3-pack or something.

About 98% of Minimate's use the same exact body too, so that probably doesn't hurt their production either.
