Which is better? I'm thinking of picking up some 6 inch scale figures, the 4 inch Marvel Universe really aren't doing it for me any more. What are the difference in these figures and what should I be looking at? I'm extremely interested in X-men characters primarily, then some of the Avengers etc second.

Marvel Legends is better for articulation
Marvel Select is better for detail some of the ones i want of marvel select are mephisto ,the watcher ,Thanos and Juggy. i have anti venom, hulk, thor, bucky cap and iron man. i think hasbro marvel legends are starting to be better than toybizs |

Marvel Legends has by far the superior character selection, but as TheSymbiote said, Marvel Select has the better detail. Both lines can complement each other though. The Marvel Select figures are bigger than ML, so sometimes it will look weird if you combine the lines. For example, a MS Captain America is going to look huge next to some ML Avengers. BUT, a MS Hulk or Juggy will look absolutely perfect along side ML figures. The characters that are supposed to be bigger in size are great from the MS line. Those are usually the ones that I have bought myself, plus there are some real winners that were never release in ML. Again, as TheSymbiote said, Mephisto, Watcher and Thanos are some examples that perfectly compliment ML figures due to their bigger size.

Depends on your wants and needs, if your a completest go marvel select because there's less then 30 figures made from 1st series up to most recent other then some variants, both are around the same price, except when you get into Marvel legends first series and then the odd rarity. ML has 10x more figures so a better chance of finding more characters you need/want and a better chance of buying loose/bulk lots especially on eBay. I had a guy contact me recently to unload his ML collection for $300 I'm getting 3 baf's sentinel, mojo and apocalypse along with few other baf parts, juggy, colossus, gambit, rogue, night-crawler, professor x, longshot, storm, roughly about 20 figures and 3 baf's for $300 if you were to buy some of the figures individually even on ebay could be alot more. For someone just starting, focus on the figures you really want because depending on the xmen or avengers figure you should be prepared to shell out quite a bit of $$ especially when you get into, captain America, thor, iron man. Regular retail was about $15/figure but some of the variants are in the 100+ range, like hulk buster iron man and 1st series stealth variant sell for between 1-200. so in the end buy what you like and collect what u like, I say Ml for articulation, character depth, price, and bafs! MS has some better sculpts and paint aps, less movement, better bases, no baf's, more availability, and not as much price difference.

another thing I realised is marvel select offers you the chance to get some figures that if you were to find in marvel legends to be 10X as much. Example red hulk ms $23.99 on BBTS or pay over $100 to buy ml the entire baf set inorder to complete him or that alone for him on ebay or on some site. Deadpool is another example, the new ms might set u back 20-30 but the ml is over 40 and that's loose, moc is $100+, captain america is also the same. they're both great series, ms,ml (hasbro and toybiz) and now mu. personally I love the marvel icons line a little more due to scale, but limited selection, fairly high price and low availability atleast store wise.

Marvel Legends have great detail and great articulation(for some) and Marvel Select Figures like the Marvel Select Iron Man 2 line are kind of detailed and poorly articulated,so i recommend the Marvel Legends figures, and be sure to find Deadpool,he's expensive and hard-to-find!

Marvel select , yes good for details and little accessories, such as base and background. and sometimes you can find very good shape and size for some figure.
Marvel legend, are very good for articulation and more line character you can find, BUT when HASBRO take the brand from Toybiz, their lines are not very good and only re-issue some character that already made. i kindly stress when see many figures such spiderman, wolverine and HULK ALWAYS re-issue only with different color, different concept (but all the same!!!), etc. Hopefully HASBRO will produce some character that not even see in marvel legends line. i want complete really BAD for my AVENGERS Line from Marvel legend and hope they will do that on 2012 !!

You are better off with just Marvel Legends. Marvel Select started to add more articulation during the past few years, but the combination and balance of sculpt/articulation has always been in Marvel Legends' favor. Marvel Select has some beast sculpts, like Sabretooth and the upcoming Deadpool, but for your tastes, the Marvel Legends are more suited to your liking. While Marvel Select has added articulation, the articulation sometimes breaks the sculpt. For example, with Wolverine, if you swivel the forearm the lower arm will look weird.
The best X-Men and Avengers figures to buy from Marvel Legends(mostly Toy Biz, a few Hasbro) include:

i think marvel legends tb h simply cause there are cheaper and that they have more detail espically with the movie lines from hasbro target exculisves but saying that if you want figures in scale its better to get both , this what i might be doing for the hulk simply cause i cant find one that suits me. :L so its really up to you although if you were to i would personally do what i do and collect both im thinking of getting the marvel select hulk although as seeing that the avengers line is coming out soon im waiting to see what hasbro has to offer on the Hulk although looking at the previous lines of the hulk i was thinking of the marvel select hulk for me it really depends on what the hulk looks like when in 7" (hopefully) for the avengers 6" target exculsive toyline but with the detail they are using i hope it wont be a let down

I think if you're going for a big guy like hulk, obination, thing, etc go with Marvel Select as the detail/paint apps are better and the size limits articulation which is fine. Marvel Legends has 10x more xmen and avenger figures, and I got like 20 Marvel Legends figues to sell, a lot of them xmen, x-23,2 series 3 wolverine, 2 mr sinisters, juggernaut, jim lee cyclops, regular cylops, storm, pyro, thor, female shield agent, psylocke, nightcrawler, bishop, longshot, archangel variant, weapn x, oh and even have bucky cap from MS, there's maybe the odd figure I'm forgetting, but will give u a good price on the lot if interested.

I really prefer articulation, so it's ML for me. But some of the Select figures are stunning!
I think i want the Select Abomination and Thor for my collection. Plus I think Cloak and Dagger is only available in Marvel Select. |

Didn't realize how many ML there were out there and how well the variety was for them. Almost better so than the MU line. Although I just could never find myself buying any of them except for X-23 and Domino. As much as I'm a big Marvel fan...

I want to assemble my movie Avengers, but in light of the lack of reveal of Black Widow, I was thinking of using the Disney Marvel Select Black Widow as a stand-in. Which are the best released so far of each character? I was thinking of starting with Marvel Select Movie Hulk, but which Hawkeye should I go with for scale, Walmart Legends or Marvel Select? What about Thor, Marvel Select (Thor movie) or Walmart Legends? Which Iron Man? And I assume Walmart Legends Cap is probably the best since he has the new uniform.

Sorry Lou,i dont have the WM Hulk to compare.but id imagine the WM is gonna be smaller than MS Juggernaut.Im annoyed my FP never got the helmetless version.i prefer the Legends version without the helmet, the head sculpt is amazing, way to good to cover up.

I would have always said Select until I picked up the most recent Legends Thor, Steve Rogers and Bucky Cap... Now I'm more drawn to the Legends...
The Abomination Select is, however, awesome. |

Its a bit of a No brainer for me,Legends for most part has been head and shoulders above Select,Up until Hasbro took over then it was Hit and Miss<<<More miss.i agree with some of the guys here Select do have some awesome Figures,Abomination,Thanos,Mephisto to name a few.i even love the Boris Karloff "Mummy" With that big ass sarcophagus.but overall Toybiz legends set the standard.
