Exactly, why is the MP Grimlock much shorter than Prime and Megatron?

Also have you guys noticed that actual scale of MU figures is closer to 1:17 than 1:18? i think you are right, most of them tower over star wars figures, but then again there are figures like the cap line winter soldier who are perfect star wars scale too. its all swings and round abouts.

When scale really gets screwed up is across the different movie lines. Thor figures tend to be too small. Spider-man tend to be somewhat bigger. IM2 were pretty good.
The "big" single pack figures - ie. Juggernaut, Hulk, Thanos, etc. - are victims of costs, I'm sure, not to mention fitting them on a regular single pack package. You start to get into "legends" size figures to make them bigger. Why they didn't create a "deluxe" sized MU figure, I don't know, as this would have made more sense for the "big" figs. But, it is fair to say there are some scaling issues with these figures in general - no way is Cable taller than Hulk. Sure, it is nitpicking - and no, its not a reason to get out of collecting these series as someone suggested - but it is something to think about when you are paying upwards of $8 for a figure and wondering if Hasbro is going to come out with a better scaled figure next year? |

well said perrych!
The thing with the Thor figures is that Thor himself isnt tall like you said, he can just about blag being taller than an average iron man movie figure (well, mark III anyway) but i found with most the Thos figures, they were all alot taller than Thor! even little Hogun! I had to lop about a quarter of an inch, maybe even closer to half an inch off of Fandral, Hogun, Odin and King Loki to make them a better scale with the Thor figure. Sif and Volstagg are alright. yeh it would have made sense for them to make a deluxe mold for bigger characters but it probably came down to budget. but thats just guessing. and yeh actually you are right about paying for something that should be accurate... i can never get them as cheap as the US usually. well, retail anyway. average price for an MU over here is £10, which is $15 almost $16! thats twice as much as you guys are paying retail! damn the UK!!!

I altered a bunch of my Jakks wrestlers to try and get the scale consistent between RA, DA, and the Mattel figs!

We need to consider that every milimeter of extra size translates into thousands in manufacturing costs- Juggernaut was what got me into collecting MU because the sheer size of the figure- AT NO EXTRA COST TO US- showed they were quality-driven and looking to make a great product.
We can complain about scale and mold re-use all day, but I collected Toybiz back in the day...((shudder)) and the first Secret Wars line, which had all of TWO bucks for eleven figures! |

lol, yeh thats true, it would cost them more to make bigger figures so thats understandable, whats not understandable is why they dont make ones like sentry, cable etc smaller, cutting costs on materials for them and being more accurate for us hahaha
either way, pro basketball player cable and hobbit juggernaut aside, its a great line and the quality of the sculpts and characters is just getting better and better! so chuffed we are getting beta ray bill! i dont care what size he his, ill be just glad to have him when hes out!

Bill looks to be alsmot completely new...maybe he uses the upper legs from Cable or something.
As to Sentry...he's a tank! He should be- and I think his size is pretty correct. If you see JrJr draw hm, the Sentry is at least Thor-sized. i just hate that puffy claw hand on him- that and on any figure really is awful! |

Well, the upcoming Masterpiece Prime version 2 is going to be a fair bit smaller than the original Prime Masterpiece as well. It seems that the overall size for new masterpiece figures has shrunk slightly. Grimlock being the first example of this.

Scale is important. Characters should be sized properly. There really is no excuse for this. And it's getting old!

A lot of the people on this board that really couldn't stand the scaling problems used their creativity to make customs. I've seen dozens of them on here, and most of them turned out amazing.

Really damn perfect. But later Thor apps have him bigger and buffer, so he's my classic Thor. But the Modern Thor still looks better, IMHO. Match Showdown Thor with the movie Warriors Three for the Win! Scale matching looks best when you go farther afield than just MU- pair (X-Men line) Warstar with Gladiator for two great Imperial Guard members. Match modern Havok with (X-Men line)Ch'od for a Starjammers match. Cap line Buckycap over the Gigantic Battles version (a huge improvment) Same for Winter Soldier. ML BAF MODOK goes perfect with MU AIM soldiers nad I'd bet that the old Iron Man line MODOK could make a nice MODOG or even MODAM with a little work (they're somewhat smaller than the original killing machine). Terrax from the old FF line looks to be perfect MU scale (if looking at his New Warriors #1 appearance). HIs articulation is not great, but the overall look with some minor repainting really rocks next to the Silver Surfer and Galactus! |

I've been reading about the size difference but I have yet to see any pics of it. I have the Spirit Convoy but I would like a original one too. I don't think I want a smaller scalled one. I thought megatron was the same size as the first release.

As for the new prime here is a picture of it with Masterpiece Rodimus. And here is a picture of Rodimus with the old Prime. The difference should be clear. Hope that helps.

From what I remember, the MP seeker mold was smaller because an in-scale-with-Prime version of Starscream would have been cost-prohibitive. So I think the designers are just focusing on making a definitive version of a given character, rather than making it fit in with the rest of the series (well, except maybe for Megatron. He was scaled to match Prime in bot mode, hence the comically over-sized P-38 mode).

I don't think many of the marvel lines have ever been scaled really well. the old 90's line wasn't good at it, and some marvel legends aren't too bad, but some aren't quite in scale either. It's an unfortunate side effect to re-using molds.

For some reason the lack of proper scale doesn't bother me with MU. As long as the bigger figs are kinda bigger that is good enough. LOL. You just gotta get creative with your displays... like have some figs stand on hidden blocks or something.

the only thing that bothers me is the fact that the wwhulk is so puny looking and by association, so will the upcoming normal hulk since it utilizes the same body. cable could have been a half a cm shorter. warpath should really be on a bigger body like a colossus type. the nitpicks would be the juggernaut type bodies since i wish that rod connecting the upper torso and lower torso was about a half cm longer since the whole body looks so squat with long legs.
also the fact that the movie lines aren't in the same scale sorta. technically they're more correct since all the height in most of the MU figures is in the lower legs whereas the movie toys have a more realistic proportional take. but still, MU is the mainstay line so i'd rather have all other lines have those semi extended lower legs just to fit in together. |

He looks much taller. Between Hulk and Beta Ray Bill....every other figure will seem like a total rip off! A big hunk of plastic that is the Hulk next to skinny Patriot will make that charcaters seem even more sucjtastic than his is in the comics. ...and I did not think that was humanly possible, frankly. |

That's the Avengers Hulk with a new head and legs.
Same chet and feet...maybe new arms, thoough U doubt it. My XMO Iceman next to him scales exactly like that pic. Huge fig for a single card though! |

that's cuz the xmo iceman is as tall as the rest of those xmo wolvy's. he's a tyke compared to any other figure. but i mean the pic is of the wave 18 hulk that shares the same torso and right arm as the world war hulk figure and the rest of the build and height are the same. granted he's a big toy but not as big as i imagine hulk to be.
and man, i wish that wave was the one after the rogers/x-23 wave. i need the beast and beta ray bill from it. |

Yeah..me too!
What's up next, anyway? As to Iceman, I'm okay with him being shorter- minor variations in height and build really sell a group shot....though XMO Iceman is laughably small next to Cable. |
