Hey yall,

I just finished fixing the Gigantic Battles Captain America.

If you have this one then you already know how crummy the paint app is. They turned Bucky Barnes into Rasheed Barnes. So what I did was painstakingly repainted the skin tone and touched up the helmet wings.

Please check it out, and post your fixes or Captain Customs as well!

If I wanted to do this same procedure, what would you recommend? (Remember I'm a bit of a rookie.)

Johnny, didn't you know Bucky's full name was James Rashid Buchanan Barnes? Now you know...

Thanks for the interest Tarq.

OK first things first, you'll need to spend a few dollars on the Warhammer paints and brushes.

Check them out here.Games Workshop

These are water based paint that dry very fast. (Especially good if your impatient like I am) If your good at color mixing then buy the regular set. If not you can buy individual colors. The brushes, on the other hand, are expensive but well worth it. They paint evenly and if you take care of them properly they can last many months.

1.I start off by making sure I know what I want to paint. In the case of the Captain America I wanted to redo his skin tone. I set up my work area with a little water, the paints, and brushes in a room that has no circulating air. Be sure to wash your hand before you paint, you don't want grease or oil to rub off on the figure because it makes the paint difficult to stick.

2.Then I continue by mixing the skin tone which is a combination of 3 different colors. White, red, and a base skin tone. The 40K skintones are dark, so what I do is try tp make them a bit more realistic. First mix 60/40 combo of Skin Tone and White. Next a 1% dropping of red goes in. Remember that too much red will ruin the color so be careful. Once I have the skin tone complete I clean my brush off with water and begin to paint.

3. I then set down a base coat. It may not stick right away but continue to paint in one direction, making sure to not get sloppy. Too much paint will begin to clump and then you'll have a total mess. After you have gotten your base coat on, take a drop of water on your brush and mix it in with the concoction. This will make the paint thin. Continue to paint the face. By now it should be nice and smooth, do not touch it and place it in an open area to dry for at least 3-4 hours.

4. Once it's dry you can do 1 of 2 things. You can add an extra coat of mixed paint to strengthen it, OR you can temper it. There are a hand-full of way to do this but the safest and easiest is to take your painted piece and place it in boiling water, then imeadiately into cold. (I came up with this technique, and honestly I do not know if it makes a difference, but it makes me feel like I've completed the work, so...w/e)

AND THAT'S IT!!! Painting made simple...sorta

Hmm good thing I already paint warhammer lol.

So your probably using like Skull White, Elf Flesh, Blood Red (i think)?

If the red is to give it that rosy appearance, do you think a light red or even pink color would be better or does it get lost in the concotion?

Do you lay down a base color, like a white or black before painting the skin tone on?

Those colors are correct. You want to use red very sparcly, just a tiny dip. You could use a pinkish color but you would have to use more than the red. I do not lay a base coat down, at least not for faces. I only recomend this when your having to paint over extremely light or dark areas.
