YES!!! I am already upset at the downward spiral of the quality in each release. A lot of it looks like cheap dollar store fodder. I really hope they step it up- especially for the price. The lions look really cheap and the figures have crappy paint aps so far. Pidge looks like he has rickets and his helmet version is wrong. Hope it gets better.

There were no "really pressing questions" asked.

1) No brainer. it means they'd have to work with both marvel *and* hasbro to produce something that has more redtape wrapped around it than anything else in existance. Obvious answer is "No."

2) What happened to Voltron Force? The line has pretty much fallen through. That's new information.

3) What toys will the MoS line have? Too early to say. That's an obvious question that probably shouldn't have been asked.

4) Why not have the 4H sculpt the movie masters? New info: The GLMMs were created entirely with a computer, using the actual computer animation models. It was an experiment, and they'll probably use the 4H in the future. A surprisingly good answer.

5) Will XXX character be made in XXX line. Non-answer. These types of questions shouldn't even be asked.

The only thing I'd remotely consider "pressing" is the Voltron Force question. And I don't. And it's my own question.
I'm just glad the obligatory "WHY WON'T U MAKE MU STYLE FIGURES!!!" wasn't thrown in there. I'm so sick of those it almost makes me nausious. There's at least one every round, and the answer is always the same, then days of fan bitching about it. It's a dead horse now, and a waist of a question.

What I mean is, alot of good questions were asked by arkers, but they didn't really seem to pick any of those questions. Rather it seemed they picked what was easiest for them to answer. Its laziness.

Mattel may do things differently, but from personal experience with Hasbro's TF team, they only allowed a limited number of questions to be submitted each round.
I've been operating under the assumption Mattel was the same (With a limit of five, as that seems to be the normal number), as opposed to submitting a bunch of questions,a nd they answer which ones they choose to.
I could be wrong though, as I don't actually handle these. Shin Densetsu does these, and I believe he picks and chooses which questions get submitted.

Yes I pick and choose the questions, and sometimes when there aren't a lot of new questions to choose from or questions that can't be answered, I go with what I have. Now the reason why I even sent some of the "why can't we have DC like Marvel Universe...." questions is so that they are aware that YES there is demand for figures like that and I did have some hope of them finally just blurting out something definitive regarding 4" fully articulated DC Universe figures. Why? It keeps getting brought up in this thread, it seems to be a top demand for DC fans.

I do agree that the 4H style of crotch/hips would work well in 4" scale however my gut feeling is that Mattel would not get the 4H to do a 4" DC line because it may take their time away from 6" DCUC, Movie Masters, MOTUC and whatever else they are working on for Mattel. I would love to eat my words and see the 4H do it, I know they can pull it off but who knows.

There is a limit of 5 questions to send but there are typically 2 sessions per month, but only 1 this month due to SDCC.

Usually with Mattel, they will never tell you what new figure/product is coming out if they have not already revealed it. Questions they usually answer in detail are usually about their design process, why something was done, why something wasn't done, et al.

At this point, for the past few years they've shown that for collectors, they are focusing primarily on 6" scale while their 3-3/4" scale are for kids and as we know, end up with mixed reviews, which is the best way I can describe it.

Thanks for the insight in the process, Shin.

Questions:

1) Have you ever considered scaling down the standard DCUC style of articulation into the 4" format?

2) Is there an official term you use for the style of hip articulation you use on the DCUC toys? Most collectors seem to have difficulty coming up with terms how to describe it to other collectors that have no experience with DCUC.

I disagree. If it takes more than a year to bring out a line they should been in proto phase at least.
They don't want to say anythingg yet fine, I get bwhind the business decision. But don't tell me you have no idea what you're doing for a line 10 months or less away.

What point is there in having 2 Batman toylines running at once? You have The Dark Knight Rises, and then there's the straight up more animated looking Batman line. It almost seems like it would be over saturating the market.

Mattel prob sees it as 2 different target markets/age groups. They also have a couple different Batman lines for even younger kids. But don't go and try to make sence with anything Mattel does. There logic in putting out an inferior articulated 3.75 in actionfigure line thats more expensive than the superior 4 inch MU liine still boggles my mind. They awknoledge the flaw, try to fix it and end up scraping the line.

Question:

You still can produce the DCAU styled figures, in the form of JLU, and one could assume you could make those same costumes on DCUC bodies if you wished.
But, can Mattel ever produce Teen Titan Animated Series figures, since Bandai hasn't had the lisence for years? Either as part of the JLU line, or even just replicating some of the costumes or characters as standard DCUC?

A couple MOTUC questions.

Do you have any plans to make the white mailer boxes available for purchase? So those of us who have the early releases that didn't get the mailers can have a nicer way to store our figures. They could be generic with just Masters of the Universe on the front. No need to print specific character names on them.

Also, the figures that come with stickers on the packages, e.g. Princess of Power, Snake Men, Horde, & Gray Skull. For future figures, could you just include the sticker in the box like my Preternia He-Man came? Leaving it up to the consumer to apply the sticker? I would rather apply it myself than have someone there slap it on crooked in a hurry like a few of my figures have. It's very annoying for a MOC collector to see a beautiful figure & package with a sloppily placed crooked sticker.

Man what disappointing and evasive answers. not lookin good for motuc....they should move it to a general availability. Its nice they try to give us new characters but given its mostly nostaligia driven and their bad QC and poor CS via DR its not suprising. They should make these new things con only instead of things like marlena, adam w/orko etc. If the line was mainstream i could see introducing new characters or fan created ones but with sub lines they should listen more closely to what changes and figs their customers want as opposed to seeming to disregard the complaints of over half (according to matty boards) of their customer base. I buy off secondary cause i dont want a lotta of the figs they offer. Granted this sub i woulda cause at least half the figs i want but their price increase is more than i can afford so i will have to take that and spend secondary for the few i did want...if jitsu ram man and foe men even make it.

I'm honestly surprised Matty even bothered coming up with a non-answer for that question. But I would have loved to have been there when they first read it. I can just imagine steam coming out of their ears, Looney Tunes-style.

Apparently you haven't been reading these Q&A sessions for very long. Evasive double-talk and political-speak is the status quo for most of these things. It's actually more rare that we get solid and direct answers from a company.

Now to be fair, a lot of the questions about upcoming/future product cannot be answered like that, since even Matty might not know for certain. Plans change and the farther away those plans are, the greater the potential deviation from those plans.

DAMN, I can't believe they even answered that last question at all. Now I'm convinced they have automated answers for these. There's no real reason to ask them questions anymore. Their answers are terrible. I've never seen such bad feedback from a company.

actually... there is a potentially important nugget in that last answer I've never seen any of us consider before. Fitting them into the pricepoints retailers are demanding.

This is a very important aspect too. I'm in no way defending mattel at all, when hasbro has been able to manage it themselves, but this is definately making me look at this from a new angle.
We can only assume that Mattel's production runs are quite a bit lower than Hasbro's. We all know that means smaller profit margin per unit sold, and higher production costs per unit, because they don't have as much product to spred the costs out across.
So, it looks like it boils down to this: Hasbro has more product sold in more places to be able to meet the price point the retailers are demanding, with a figure that has as many moving parts as fans are demanding. Mattel does not.

Again, not defending Mattel, but that makes this make a whole lot more sense.
