Oh man, that Batplane is gonna be massive. I won't have any place to put it. Let's see what kind of bells and whistles you got in there Todd. Don't disappoint!

A Todd-sized Batwing would be huge, about 2.5" wide, and have a boatload of oversized parts that would ramp up the costs significantly, like 2x the price of the Batmobile. I want it to exist, I need it to, but unless Todd has a secret love for '89 that makes him willing to barely break even in making this thing...?
I could easily see Todd making the Batwing, make the wings mostly hollow, have them snap into the fuselage and you can save a lotta space on the shelves at Target or Walmart!

Maybe Lim Toys R.P.D Officer can change your mind. It's a beautiful clothed goods piece.

All these mofos saying "Batplane" is making my eye twitch.

Oh for sure, there's a lot of skirting around you can do, but unless you break up the fuselage front to back and split the wings up into two-three parts each, it's still going to use oversized tooling. And doing that would make it a lot less structurally sound.

At the end of the day, though, McFarlane is one of the few action figure companies I can see doing this. I have hopes, even if not expectations.

It is but you can still see the glaring thick stitch for every seam. And we are talking about capes. He is wearing tactical gear not a cape.. I was tempted to buy him becuase you know in three to five that figure is gonna be an easy flip. But pass. I've ordered enough and have enough preorders from 5K.

Again still no example of a good soft goods cape. It doesn't exist for 6 to 7 inch figs.

I do admit I broke a rule of mine though. And this was mainly for my brother. We have always loved this movie and how the hell else are we supposed to get a figure..its not even that great.

LOL I'd get the Natalie Portman fig from Leon, but not Jean Reno sorry. Ok, I don't do capes. I have the Kennedy fig. The shirt collar is the only part that's kinda frayed and messy, otherwise I'll give his clothes a 9/10. The details are insane.

Perhaps not a perfect one, but do you have an example of a rubber cape that looks like cloth?

Oh, trust me, very very very very much

I'm just shuddering at the compromises that may need to be made to hit any reasonable pricepoint, like fudging the proportions/splitting parts to fit on standard tooling, swaths of detail being left off to lower the part count, etc.. Like I said, if Todd or someone else in the company is a major '89 fan that wants to leverage the license to make a grail item like this at minimal profit they could totally do this and do it right. But is that the case? If they want to make a buck, this needs to be gimped or outrageously expensive.

And this little detail:

Gold Label is for store exclusives. It wouldn't be Gold Label unless there was already a retail partner signed up or it's intended for their online shop, meaning this thing is past solicitation stage and confirmed for production, right?

According to the solicitation info I found here on Toyark, the DC Collectibles Batwing was 37” long x 25” wide x 6” tall. It was also solicited at $175. That is a price from 2016 though so a Batwing in 2022/2023 would be a bit higher.

I'm not sure what Todd's relationship is with the old DC Collectibles employees. I believe that I'd heard that some of them were working with/for Todd to continue some of the DC Collectibles lines. If so, Todd could certainly turn to them for advice since they already released a Batwing.

Hahaha Todd doesn't need advice from other toy companies. Wouldnt care if they offered it either.

Why would I need an example of something being something else? If its a plastic toy I want a plastic cape. Cloth capes look terrible on smaller plastic figures! I don't care about cloth on plastic. If I want a doll I'll buy a Monster High one. I have Greta and bettle juice at the moment and those are bank. Or there is Neca 8 inch figures i have both signature and common Elvira and the 1st pet detective. All the home alone ones. And 6 different living dead dolls. And no cloth capes.

The problem is gravity. Hold the corner of a piece of 8.5" X 11" paper. Then hold the corner of a 4" X 4" piece if paper. It doesn't drape the same.
You can use wires to simulate the weight of fabric but then you have thick piping that looks like doll clothes not the scale its supposed to be. It works better on 1/12 and 1/4 becuase at that scale the visibility is not as glaring.

You don't need an example, I do. I like my capes to be capes, so if you've got an example of a sculpted piece that looks like a real cape, I'm all ears. Eyes? All eyes.

And the rando rant about all the cloth goods figures you've got after saying you only want plastic is confusing, tbh.

I knew we were getting a Keaton Batmobile but wow, if they can actually pull off the Batplane at this scale I'll be really impressed.

Same. Never liked the way cloth goods looked on figures of this size (or 3.75" ones too).

Oh, thank goodness, there's been a leak on the '89 Batwing price: $130. I was really scared they'd try to get it within the ballpark of the Batmobile and its $80 MSRP, but that extra $50 has me thinking they sprung for all that oversized tooling I was talking about instead of gimping it. I'm pumped!

But now I need to actually budget for the things. I want to light & repaint while still having stock backups so I'll need doubles at least, so I'm already $420 in the hole for this (unconfirmed) line and that doesn't even include any figures yet. I hope this does well enough to get us through all four of the movies. A Forever Batmobile in 1/10 would be amazing!

So great to know the price! Thanks!

Smart getting two of each. I may as well..two bat mobiles for sure. I'll get one plane for sure.

TNI posted listings from "Bro Depot", an HK-based store whose deal seems to be scoring product and listings pre-release/solicitation, and if they're legit they've got some McF doozies.

Gold Label Batwing (listed as being from The Flash movie)
Retro '66 Batgirl (Comic-style)
Retro '66 Batboat (woo!)
Retro '66 Wayne Manor Library (please don't suck)

I hope that the Flash tie-in for the '89 vehicles is just to get retailers onboard for stocking such large product and that they're really the original designs. And I'm guessing there's still some waffling from Yvonne Craig's estate WRT the likeness if they're going the comic route. The Batboat is a pleasant surprise, but it's the Wayne Study that's got me pumped more than anything in the '66 line.

It's such a smaller set than the Batcave that it must be easier to make a more "complete" area ala the Villains' Lair, and I'm sure some sticker swap-out would make for a compelling display for other 6" figure, like the Buffy library has been all these years.

I wonder if the comic-style Batgirl just means it'll be based off the '66 comic like the upcoming Two-Face is? If so I won't mind, a lot of these Mcfarlane Batman TV figures have a "stunt double" look so it'll work well enough haha
