These haven't been announced yet but McFarlane will be releasing a new line of DC Super Powers figures. These figures are 5 inches tall and have a similar aesthetic as the original DC Super Powers figures produced by Kenner back in the 1980s. The first wave includes Batman from Batman: Hush, a classic Superman, New 52 Darkseid, a Batwing, and a Supermobile. Based on overseas listings, a second wave will include John Stewart GL, Batman Who Laughs, and DC Rebirth Flash.
It's unclear if these figures will have an action feature like the original Kenner Super Powers figures. However, the cloth capes do attach to the figures like the original Kenner figures. The Superman cape does have the yellow S shield. Some people have already found these at Walmart stores and have reported that the figures cost $10 and the vehicles cost $20. It's possible, but not confirmed, that these figures will be Walmart Exclusives. |

I think I might be in on these. I do wish the Batman looked like the Super Powers Batman though. Maybe later.

YES. YES YES YES.
The originals were before my time (save the Batmobile, which a local toy store still had stock of in the early '90s) but they've always been lurking in the background of my mind and collection. I still love the Kenner aesthetic after all these years, and that Batwing is looking so good in this style. Hold up. This could be a way to get period-appropriate versions of characters we didn't get before, or get accurately. DeVito Penguin, Returns armor Batman, supporting characters? I would've killed for a Vicki in this scale/style back in the day. I'd only maim for one now :P |

Oh snap, the Supermobile was my jam. Wasn't there a Matchbox-style one of those too?

Definitely excited for these. Super Powers was before my time as well but I grew up with The Dark Knight Collection, Batman Returns, and the Batman: The Animated Series lines from Kenner. I did buy some of the SP figures off of eBay about 10 years ago but I’ll happily take updates of those old figures.
From what I’ve seen on social media, Superman appears to be the desired fig out of the three. I’ve yet to find any pics of Batman and Darkseid out of their packages. |

Batman and the Batwing are an instant buy despite rarely owning figures that are less than 6 inches for my collection. I had the original Batman figure as a kid and my 2-year old godson will like these.

I know sheer pragmatism is the main culprit here (re-uses are cheap, making sure kids can keep using their existing toys makes the parents less hesitant to buy into a new line) but the Super Powers line directly informed so many DC toylines.
Super Powers, Toybiz's DC line, Kenner's Dark Knight Collection, Batman Returns, Batman TAS, Batman Forever, Superman TAS, Batman & Robin, New Adventures, and when Mattel snapped up the license, their TNBA, JL, and JLU lines were all backward compatible as well.... Super Powers is right up there with Star Wars, Barbie, and ARAH in longevity, and it's so cool to see it getting some modern love. |

Itsalltrue posted some out of package shots of Batman to his IG. I'm not sure how to link IG posts in a thread here on Toyark. For now, it'll just be screen shots.
One of the social media posts I came across tonight said these have been spotted in Kenner, Louisiana. Not sure where else they have been seen. |

So dope. I'm in for doubles of everything, and I'm totally not an MOC kinda person, but I want to have carded ones on display. If this is what ReAction people are getting out of that line, then I finally get it. I mean, I don't, but if they were $10 then I would. I think?
Figures are looking sharp (slight height difference on Supes aside) but that sparking texture on the chests is making my eye twitch. With luck these'll be profitable enough to get more care put into the tooling. And hopefully the c-clip tailoring gets tightened up as production goes along. I know it's a nitpick for such a cheap line, but so was the old one, and those things were clean AF. |

super mobile? That's what it was called? I had a lil metal corgi toy of that when I was a kid but I never knew what the heck it was other than Superman related. I didn't realise it was intended for him to fly in. Because why would I? The guy flies about by himself anyway. I figured it might be for one of his allies to join him. lol. I dunno.

Fun idea, but odd of McFarlane of all people has a Super Powers revival. His 90's stuff was the game changer from the old Kenner/Hasro toy sculpting. Also, why angry Batman with no yellow oval logo? Rumored release. Batman who Laughs, oh, yeah a character we all wanted back in the 80's...before he even existed. |

He flies in it to protect Superman from kryptonite. I never understood armor on Darkseid, isn't he nearly invincible.

Not quite the same thing, but wasn't the unused SP sculpt reworked to become Catwoman for the Returns, TAS, and Legends of Batman?

Based on research and insider knowledge presented here: Holy Cow! Super Powers Extravaganza!, that Catwoman was NOT an unproduced Super Powers item, rather an early prototype of Batman Returns Catwoman, before costumes and appearances were finalized (toys have to go in design and production well before the movie's release, and Kenner didn't even bother to get the movie Penguin right!). While some Super Powers character's looks were redesigned for the toys, that Catwoman outfit doesn't appear in Super Powers presentation artwork, etc.
The confusion come from 90's Toy Magazines, and such magazines in the 90's were exactly investigative journalism. There was some assuming Kenner DC this was made for Kenner that. Same with Swamp Thing. The idea that Kenner just developed a Swamp Thing toy line that was similar in scale to Super Powers wasn't acceptable, Swamp Thing had to be an unproduced figure...except he wasn't. Kenner used that scale a lot. Years ago, I pointed those things out, along with the website I linked (when it was a better state) to a certain smug "toy expert/archivist" on youtube after his Super Powers video and he couldn't admit he was wrong, after all, he used old magazines as sources. Never mind all the years of online fandom and others looking into things. All that said, sure Catwoman in new Super Powers would be fine. Last edited by Sean C; 07-02-2022 at 03:04 PM.. |

But with Rebirth Flash being just Flash with some extra lines (only a bottle of alcohol and a q-tip away from classic) and no mention of specific version with John Stewart implying he'll be OG, it's weird that they'd go with Batman Who Laughs. Does anyone (and I mean anyone) like that character? Even with the DC edict that every non-media-tie-in wave needs a Batman, they could have gone in so many other directions. It feels like DC directing that specific versions need to be represented, because even Todd's Rule of Cool can't have pointed them that way after the first wave was so overwhelmingly old school, right? You can't even pretend that monster will fit in with the rest of the line, it's just a bizarre choice. I really just want two things from this line besides what we've already seen: missing characters (Catwoman, the rest of the Titans, etc.) and media tributes/corrections from the period. Think Shipp Flash, Gough Alfred, movie Zod w/ Ursa & Non, that sort of thing! I want all the figures that kid me kept looking for but couldn't find. I wanted a Flugelheim Joker! How much more perfect would that have been for Kenner's color-change face gimmick, huh? |

I appreciated that, too; I heard years ago that the Returns-derivative Catwoman figures were Super Powers-based and never even questioned it because of Kenner's infamous re-use practices.
