Wow! I have this feeling McFarlane is going to shock us this year. He has been building things up for a while. Feels like the tortured souls and movie maniacs days are coming again.

So are they going to be statues or actually action figures. If the former I’m out, but if the latter I’ll be picking a few up for sure

They should be in line with what they're doing for Stranger Things. 12 to 14 points of articulation.

So is McFarlane just gonna keep grabbing licenses NECA had when they were making less articulated figures and showing them up? Because I'm totally okay with that!

I wonder what age the trio of kids would be. I'm hoping its the older versions from the 3rd or 4th film since I already got the young versions from Figuarts.

They're going to be doing waves of specific age ranges. So you should, in theory, get them at multiple ages.

Yeah but as with any line, the longevity of it depends on how well that first wave or two sells, and Macfarlane (and NECA) have often cancelled poor performing lines after only one or two waves. So I'm really hoping the first wave is Harry, Hermione, and Ron from year 3 or 4 instead of year 1 since Figuarts just put out some great year 1 depictions of the trio already and many HP collectors who already bought those Figuarts versions may pass on getting the same aged trio from Macfarlane unless they had some significant incentive to purchase them again (such as the figures coming with diorama backdrops or even more accessories compared to the Figuarts versions).

Obviously I want this line to stretch over multiple ranges to give us many of the professors, Hagrid, Sirus, etc. But Macfarlane has rarely had any single franchise line run over MANY waves. I don't even think we'll get full Trek crews for their Trek line for that reason too.

Any bets on which Dumbledore we will get?

As for longevity, I’ll be fine as long as we get a decent Snape.

Really depends on which versions of the kids they go for. If they went for the older versions then the second Dumbledore would make more sense. I'd like them to do the first one too though especially if figuarts doesn't make him.

The Figuarts Snape already looks great, despite it being more expensive. It lacks a lot of accessories though that I hope Macfarlane might provide if they do him too.

It would be great if they went the same route as DST did with their Gotham line and provide some nicely detailed environmental pieces like tables, chairs, or wall backdrops to simulate some of the classroom environments or other parts of Hogwarts. If DST could get away with including big pieces like that in with their figures for a $24.99 retail price, then MacFarlane should be able to as well.

I don't think McFarlane could "show up" NECA on their best day ever. At the time that NECA was making less articulated figures McFarlane was doing the same (or less). Even today there's no comparison whatsoever between the quality of the figures that the two companies put out.

Besides, at least NECA was striking when the iron was hot. Who gives a shit about Harry Potter figures now?

Harry Potter seems to be having a renaissance. There is a hole in the figure area. I really wanted a 3.75 line like that popco....I think that’s the name.....Brit series that none of us could get.

McFarlane started the whole horror movie toy market. Neca absolutely perfected it. But Todd started it. No way will I bash that man. No freaking way.

I mean, comparing NECA's Jareth to Mcfarlane's, the overall improvements are obvious haha. Granted they had like 10 years to improve on it

Agreed. We wouldn't have all of the awesome grown-up toys that we have today without him, and that's a fact.

Pity about those Remco figures coming out in the early 80's.

And then nothing for what...20 years. When neca started,it was beetle juice figures and they sucked. I own them and love them but by the standards of the day they were bad. Cult classics were half redone movie maniacs with the same articulation. Not until the last 5 years or so has neca really gone full articulation. Even then the first predators all broke. I honestly will never get this hate for McFarlane. I love neca, they do the best stuff right now,but most of what they do has been done many times over. For 10 years most toy magazine covers were McFarlane toys. Anyone know were the four horsemen started? Take a guess. Know why Kenner and toybiz stepped up their games? Now that print is dead, perhaps some have forgotten where the modern adult 6-7 inch scale action figure started. And it wasn’t remco. Any way,I for one am very excited to see what McFarlane can do with some new lisences. Of course standards have changed. If his stuff doesn’t meet today’s standards,I’ll be the first to point it out.
