![]() Street Date: Officially 2020-02-05 MSRP: $25 Price I Paid: $25 Scale: 7-inch (or 1/10) This is officially "sold out", but some local comics shops may still have it for MSRP. ---------- This Batgirl figure was released two years ago, but I didn't get it until July 2021 (my very first McFarlane action figure). Barbara Gordon is my favorite comic book character ever, so I wanted to review it before the Gotham Knights Batgirl figure is released. After buying several McFarlane DC Multiverse figures, this Batgirl is still my favorite of the entire line. The costume is based on a design by Sean Murphy, which was used on the cover of DC Rebirth Batgirl Issue 27. One side of the box mentions "Art of the Crime" (which refers to a Rebirth story arc), and the bottom of the box states "Modern Batgirl" above the barcode, but I'm going to call it the Sean Murphy Batgirl. ![]() In the plastic tray, there's one main plastic tie around Batgirl's torso and thinner plastic ties around her ankles. In addition to an information card and a base stand, Batgirl comes with two accessories, a Batarang and a grapnel. The Batarang looks more like a logo or insignia rather than an aerodynamic weapon. It also doesn't really stay in Batgirl's hands. The grapnel is my favorite one from McFarlane so far, though to be honest, the design probably would not be very functional in the real world (where would the rope be stored???). The Sean Murphy Batgirl also comes with the right-hand third of a Build-a-Batmobile. You have to get Blue Nightwing and The Batman Who Laughs for the other two parts. (McFarlane should've used another Batfamily character instead of The Batman Who Laughs; he's the odd one out of the trio.) At the time, I think Todd McFarlane was planning to release more Build-a-Batmobiles, but he's since gone down the path of Build-a-Figures instead. This Batgirl is basically 7-inches tall (to the top of her head, not the Batears). When she was released, many people complained about her being "too tall" in relation to other characters. I even saw some mods online, including drilling deeper socket holes in the hips or making the shins shorter. The problem with these kinds of mods is that you run the risk of ruining the figure's overall proportions. If you start modding the other body parts to "match", you're going to keep whittling away at plastic until you have an unusable figure, lol. Me? I like this figure just fine. The head and upper torso can rotate 360 degrees. The right arm's movement is slightly limited by the cape, which is made of a stiff rubber or soft plastic (not really poseable). You can pose her doing deep leg splits. Unlike many of the other DC Multiverse figures, it's fairly easy to pose this Batgirl without using a base stand. Build quality and paint apps are much better than subsequent figures, including the Three Jokers Batgirl. Both hands have trigger fingers, and the grips are wide enough to hold a variety of weapons (including Mortal Kombat Kitana's sais, which have rather thick handles). I even like how the fingers are naturally able to grip the Three Jokers Batgirl's Batarang. Areas of concern: -- Like many early DC figures, this one has a hard plastic diaper, which may hamper articulation. -- Be careful with the hair when turning the head. -- Some people may want to paint the mask grey or blue.
