Power Rangers needed a drummer...?
Brilliant canary yellow is a wise choice for inner-city urban vigilantism. The wearer will have no trouble blending in with his/her surroundings. |

So is that what happened to Duke? I remember last Batman comic I read he refused to take on the mantel of Robin, though in every sense of the word he was Robin (aka Batman's sidekick). So now he's "The Signal"? Bright glaring signal? |

Same can be said for red/yellow of Robin. Although we all know that was by design. Robin's job is to draw all the criminals' bullets while Batman do his thing.

So now he's "The Signal"? Bright glaring signal? The bullet draw thing came from an elseworld. It's not actually canon. At this point it's clear Robins colors come from the costumes Dick wore as an acrobat. Batman Forever got that right. Duke thought Bruce wanted to make him a Robin. Bruce said that was not the case. He's basically daytime Batman as opposed to a nighttime vigilante. Also he has super powers that manipulates light. So the color of his costume is irrelevant. |

Clearly, you aren't very brushed up on your batman canon. Signal's uniform is bright yellow so that he can easily be spotted by civilians who need his help. That's why he's called "signal." That's also why he only patrols during the day. He isn't a stealth hero, necessarily, like Batman, although he was trained by Batman during the series "Batman & The Signal."

Man, they really tried to find a niche for him to fill to seperate Duke from the other 50 Batmen/Robins/Batgirls in Gotham. "When you need a Batman's help in the daytime, look for the bright yellow dude...with superpowers"

I know it's comic-accurate, but I personally never liked the design for Duke Thomas's costume as Signal but hearing the actual reason behind it being mentioned here has warmed me to the idea. I've only read his involvement during the Robin Wars, so I never got a follow-up on what his character has been up to after that besides the costume change.

So he's a firetruck, basically? You know there's a reason why MOST superheroes work at night, because that's when crime most likely happens. So either 1) Gotham is so bad now, people are literally being robbed under broad daylight, or 2) He just shines around the city directing traffic where ever accidents occur during the daytime.

If criminals know that Batman only comes out at night, they should definitely readjust their crime schedules for daytime.

Yeah crimes do indeed happen in the morning. Batman has the night covered. Is there really an argument about colorful superheroes operating in the day? DC and Marvel have made a ton of heroes on the concept. Last edited by Designincase; 11-21-2022 at 02:26 PM.. |

So now he's "The Signal"? Bright glaring signal? "I have something else in mind for you ." Duke takes the Daytime shift in Gotham while still trying to find a cure for his mother. He is also the first Metahuman true Bat-Family member. He's really good in "The Outsiders" latest run and last factoid, he actually has two different Signal costumes. I can't remember if this is his first or second design. |

Clearly!
Off topic: I don't read or collect much anymore. I experienced a moment of clarity a long time ago, fully recognizing that my collection -- a roomful of comics, all neatly bagged and boxed, some with pretty variants and fancy covers -- was almost entirely garbage, time and money wasted, so I weeded out a couple boxes worth of 'keepers,' sold / donated / recycled the rest, and resolved to be extremely budget and quality conscious going forward. I rarely buy loose, current comics anymore. I will pay top dollar for a printed copy of something good, but I have to read it first and decide whether the story and/or art deserve to be supported with my money. I gather that many of us here come from a similar place: we've learned to be more discriminating. That said, and I can't point to anything specific, but something shifted in the culture several years ago that made it easier to save money. Many times over the past decade, I've peeked in recent story arcs for different characters and franchises and thought "Glad I missed that bullet." It's ironic and frustrating, because I'm in a better position now to collect than I ever was in the old days. We seem to be undergoing some kind of transition in popular culture, like a shift in power between groups with different ideas. I'm not sure if it's for better or worse. |

Just read the ongoings that you don't buy online like the rest of us. It may be pirating but it's free. On Twitter people share Mediafire links with the whole ongoings in them, if you know who to ask.

If you read The Signal's comics, you'll know the kinds of crimes he deals with. One of his first cases is a murder mystery with zsasz, who is killing people in broad daylight. This all happens in the first few issues of The Batman & The Signal (2018).
