Street Date: Officially 2020-02-26 MSRP: $25 Price I Paid: $15 Scale: 7-inch (or 1/10) Big Bad Toy Store still has this in stock! https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Produ...Details/116356 ---------- There's been a general lack of female characters in McFarlane's DC Multiverse line, so I started buying female characters from other IPs such as Mortal Kombat and The Witcher. Skully is the first female Fortnite character to join my collection. I had hoped to substitute her for an actual DC Comics character, but her overall aesthetic is very "on theme" -- skull this, skull that, with rainbow splashes here and there. She could easily slip into the DC Universe as a fully formed character. I haven't decided if she's a hero or a villain, though. Inside the box, there is a base stand under a plastic shell glued to a cardboard tray, and the figure plus accessories are stored in a plastic tray. The single-release Fortnite figures have three accessories each -- a "harvest" tool (which looks like an axe or melee weapon to people unfamiliar with the game), a gun, and a "back bling" / backpack. (I think the only exception is the Walgreens Exclusive Glow in the Dark Skull Trooper, which comes with just a "harvest" tool.) The backpacks have pegs that fit into holes in the figures' back. The base stand is a raised platform, and the pegs are larger than the pegs on base stands for subsequent action figure lines. Skully is about 7.1 or 7.2 inches tall, though minus the high heels of her boots, she's probably closer to 6.9 inches tall. In the past, many McFarlane action figures were criticized for lacking articulation, with some people calling them poseable statues. The Fortnite system is clearly a response to market concerns, with even the packaging announcing that there are "22 MOVING PARTS". Some of Skully's joints are a bit stiff, though this could be due to how she was stored before she arrived at my home. The head and upper torso can rotate 360 degrees. The neck can tilt forward a little. The diaper is made of hard plastic, so Skully can't do as deep of a split as Fortnite Havoc. Also, the skull decoration on her right thigh prevents the right leg from going out as far as the left leg. It's great that I can push the arms flush against the body, unlike several of the DC Multiverse figures. Both hands have trigger fingers, so either of them can hold the machine gun. However, the axe really only fits in the right hand. Skully looks nice in pictures but feels great in person. She's obviously made from high-quality materials. I'm really glad that I got her despite having to perform minor neck surgery. Skully is my favorite Fortnite figure! Areas of concern: -- The neck was turned slightly to Skully's left. I had to use pliers to gently turn it facing forward. -- If you use the backpack, be careful to avoid turning the head too fast and thus snagging/breaking the cap tassels. -- Alas, the hands' teal color immediately rubbed off on the white gun handle.
