He's discussed this in multiple interviews, but basically, he thinks that eyes looking straight forward gives faces a "mannequin" or "dead" look. However, he's aware that most people don't like them and will start painting the eyes looking forward. He won't completely abandon side eyes, though, depending on the character.

Here's the Shartimus interview, which is the most comprehensive one of the recent batch (he also discusses making accessories packs).

He's had licenses for several IPs with many characters and wound up making a small percentage of them (see Harry Potter, Doom, Dune, etc.).

Dune; 1 main character = Made it
Harry Potter.. Neca bled that stone dry, not sure why he tried it.
Doom; 1 main character = Made it

I wasnt sure about Vox Machina after watching trailer.Fantasy is my thing but some aspects in this seemed goofy for an adult cartoon.glad I stuck it out because show grew on me and I enjoyed all the episodes that are out.
amazon has my 2 figures shipping to arrive on april 5.
I noticed it looks like Percy comes with his gun so proof Mcfarlane isnt antigun with figures .Im sure most people know this but seems I keep reading about it . he just has to follow the rules WB set up . plus I heard a weapon accessory pack is in the works from Mcfarlane.Haha ok I see the shartimus interview with Mcfarlane he talks about some of this.
Thats a good honest interview ! It really gives you some perspective on some of his decision making. I liked the part about shareholders and also not screwing over you customer base .

Another lackluster wave of animated figures. These look a little better than the my hero and 7ds figures, but i think Todd should quit while he is ahead.

I quite enjoyed the show. These figures look fine but they got some serious issues as a product. As a collectible.

Both figures - Hands, they need more hands. A set of closed fists should be standard.

Percy
His only accessory is his gun?

Nothing else in the show stands out as.......his mask. The figure should have an alternate head that's his demon mask.

He should have an alternate head that's his possessed face.

The character has a nice neutral face and a "Kill EVERYONE WHO DESTROYED MY FAMILY" face.

There was a much better answer here then side eye.

Then he was his bigger gun in one episode.

Vex

This shouldn't be the only face. There should be one neutral face.

Upper Torso - I don't understand why it seems like all companies do this. Split up the torso of female figures just like the guys. \

Now if the license holder is telling Mcfarlane they have to design the features I'm criticizing.....then fine. My beef is with them. Otherwise I don't know why Mcfarlane is intentionally release products with subpar features that shouldn't have left concept.

Otherwise I feel these are $10 figures with delusions of being something more.

Never thought of Vex'Ahlia as being stacked... I think Laura is competing with Ashley/Fearne "Make 'em BIGGER!" Johnson, lol

I’m very happy to see this continue. I’m hoping to get the other 3 and some villains. The show is really well done.

Seems like Mcfarlane really took to criticism that side only only heads was an incredibly stupid ill though out decision.

It's a shame the first two figures are like they are. Not sure if it will ever get corrected.

Pleasantly surprised not to be disappointed by McFarlane for once. Not going to get my hopes up for anything beyond the full Vox Machina but that's a lot better than my assumption as of yesterday that Vex and Percy would be it.

Yeah that was for real the dumbest thing he’s ever said, I doubt he even checks his own sales data. Granted he drops probably 6 times more Batmen than anything else, but I see all the Wonder Women and Batgirls moving probably more than their respective Batmen casemates.

Nice that side eye is gone. Would be great if they included alternate heads for the first two characters with these that weren't looking side eyed

I’ve seen nothing but Percy’s… and several have been very gloppy with the paintwork. My daughter LOVES the show, so I’ll get her a set if all of them get released.

I'm so jealous of Vox Machina fans. There is so much merch out there for this show. Almost a full wave of McFarlane figures and those Sideshow statues to boot, though I think the statues are based more on the actual show than the animation.

And here I am having to order Arcane posters off Etsy, because Riot don't give a shit about physical merch.
