Wow, is this the first officially licensed collectible from a Mel Brooks film?

Strangely lack of merchandise from Mel Brook's Space Balls considering they had a whole scene on "Merchandising! Merchandising!". But I'm sure Lucas (now Disney) had a lot to do with that. Maybe this is a good sign for future Space Balls items?

I'm ready for NECA to do some action figures of President Skroob, Dark Helmet, Lone Starr, Barf, Princess Vespa, and Dot Matrix.

These promo pics don’t mention Space Balls at all so this appears to be unlicensed. If I remember right Lucas let them do whatever on the condition they wouldn’t release any merch.

Mel Brooks went to Lucas and told him, in exchange for his blessing, that he would NEVER merchandise any part of Spaceballs. I love Mel Brooks bbut I think he went WAAAAY overbboard there with Lucas....

Sideshow did some 1/6th scale Young Frankenstein figures back in the early 2000's. I bought them at Media Play... Gee that feels so long ago now.

Yeah pretty blatant cocktease that we get scenes spoofing merchandising and dark helmet playing with spaceballs action figures but nothing until now.

It’s definitely not an officially licensed Space Balls item. But a fun homage. When making the movie, Brooks got permission to spoof anything Star Wars so long as he never releases merchandise from the film. The merchandising scene is a poke at that. Brooks is still honoring that agreement, even after Lucasfilm was sold.

Yeah that's just silly, parody falls under Fair Use and, while it's certainly nice to have George's blessing, it was absolutely unnecessary in my opinion!

Maybe it has to do with not just Star Wars/Lucasfilm rights, but also Fox/Alien and Warner Bros/Looney Tunes as well?

I can never tell if people know this was a a Michigan J Frog homage as much as an Alien one. I'd always thought One Froggy Evening was a classic!

Hello my baby, hello my honey, hello my ragtime gal!

As someone who found the xenomorphs horrifying and scary as a kid, this scene helped a lot in making them funny. I guess it having eyes helps... as well as that straw hat. :P
I still crack up each time it just speeds out of the room super fast after a wave at the end.
Makes me wonder if each one in the "today's special" comes pre-hatched with a tiny hat and cane.

Btw, I am surprised Spaceballs as a whole does not have a Neca toyline or something. Or it did, I just never knew?
