Huey isn't SO bad, but I feel the cheesiness. I was a bit irritated at first about the constant visual throwbacks to other games (Motherbase being Big Shell, Strangelove looking like Olga AND being voiced by the same actress) but it really is a great game and I'm sure you'll end up loving the rest of it too.
