Yeah or Bandai? I'm assuming they'll always make stuff in Japan, but who knows.

I'm not really even too bothered, I don't really want another Godzilla of this, but I'd love a good Kong figure. I have the Mezco one and it's basically the only good looking articulated Kong figures made in years.

Toho was only giving NECA license to the Godzilla figures and not the other monsters (except for king of the monsters). Neca tried to investigate the line with the poster boxes. However, if neca can’t do the other monsters then I feel they have taken the line as far as it can go. We have enough Godzilla figures. I think it’s time for neca to drop the line and move on.

Not exactly true.

At NYCC 2018 NECA announced they now have access to the entire Toho Kaiju library. However, at SDCC 2019 they stated there isn't a market big enough worth doing any monsters beyond Godzilla.

Now for Kong vs Godzilla, NECA stated late last year that they do not have the license for the new film.

I can't believe they are letting Playmates continue their bootleg garbage toyline though.

We most certainly do not. There's still a lot of monsters that need good figs. Not to mention some folks might have missed the monsterart releases and don't want to pay the mega scalper prices on Ebay.

I think neca's problem is they're always fighting an uphill battle with these licenses. Look how long and hard it took them to be able to do turtles again. Honestly wouldn't be surprised if Playmates got the license just to spite them.

NECA is unwilling to take on most master toy licenses, which tend to require companies to cater at least some of their releases to a younger audience. With Playmates taking on the master Godzilla toy license, that's the main market they are targeting. Companies like Playmates and Jazwares are more geared to the kid market with an additional, and usually smaller, focus on a collector market. NECA has almost no desire to produce items aimed directly at kids.

See, I don't understand this right here. If there's a market for selling 10+ versions of Godzilla, different as they may be, I feel like there HAS to be a market for at LEAST a Mechagodzilla or a Rodan! Hell, put out one version, and if it sells poorly never do another Kaiju! Just give it a chance though NECA!!!

I find it hard to believe that a classic King Ghidorah wouldn't be a good seller. I get that a monster like Anguirus or Gigan might not merit the effort even though I love 'em but Ghidorah is Godzilla's nemesis.

As for Godzilla himself there are a few suits I'd still like to see but the '68 one is at the top of my wishlist.

Funny how Bandai America and now Playmates can produce classic Toho kaiju figures but NECA won't take the plunge.

I have yet to see one NECA collector say "I'm only in it for the Godzillas and won't buy any other monsters."

What customer base are they researching? Are they doing any consumer research at all?

Except there is a difference. Bandai of American was reusing the Japanese molds and Playmates is reusing Bandai of America's molds. NECA has to make up an entirely new figure from scratch.

However, I do agree as there are many other monsters I want from the Showa era.

Kinda wish we got more than Neca Godzilla figures. Playmates has really dropped the ball and Neca seems only interested in releasing more Godzillas with various paints. Maybe a company like Hasbro could find the right balance between collector and mass market, but that's a pipe dream at best. From what I've seen here it's gonna be another dissapointing year for Godzilla figures

What I'm referring to is if neca wanted to produce KVG figures (like they did with KOTM)it would be more trouble than its worth with Playmates holding the license. They had to jump through literal hoops to get their turtle products out before Nick bought the franchise.

I find it astounding that NECA produced so many figures from Pacific Rim, but they don't feel confident with a broader range of Godzilla monsters. I love Pacific Rim, but I have to believe Godzilla and friends are a much more powerful cultural force.
