Hey He-Fans and She-Ravers, Toy Guru passed me a note on some MOTU updates and I wanted to post it right away:

“Hey everyone.

The 30th aniversairy year starts in less then 30 days and we are just on the edge of our seat. There is so much great MOTU goodness coming next year above and beyond the Classsics toy line in what will surely be a year long celebration.

We’ll be kicking things off in December with a sneak peak at the new licensing art created in the Classics style. You’ll hopefully see a lot of this art on tons of products next year from T-shirts to DVD releases and everything in between.

There are a few projects that have not fully come together, but once all the loose ends are tied, we’ll have some big announcements for fans of MOTU of all ages. Stay tuned.

In terms of the MOTUC toy line, do look for some changes in 2012. For starters, day of prices for basic figures will go up to $22.00. Subscribers will still get there figures for the 2008 price of $20.00. Larger items like beasts and multipacks will also go up in similar increments ($33.00 vs. $30.00 etc…). We are still waiting to confirm implementing a system for subscribers to also purchase day-of or non sub product and save on shipping by combing with their sub items. Please stand by on this.

Also, as previously announced, we are reducing production quota a bit in 2012 to be closer to the sub number. There will be some day-of product, but some figures may not be as plentiful as they were in years past. (which also means you likely won’t see sales like we just had on Black Friday/Cyber Monday again. Sure there may be a sale here and there, but it won’t likely be as extensive or as discounted as we just had). Going forward, as we start planning 2013, the line will start to favor the subscription model just a bit more. After a few years at this, we’ve found that is the safest bet to keep the line going long term. (there will still be day-of, it just means the sub is a bit more important as the lifeblood and growth indicator of the line, if that helps).

Finally, we have had a few schedule slips in 2012 already. There will 100% be a monthy figure, but some of the quarterly or 30th figures may slip a month or two. All will ship in 2012, they just may not be on the orignal month announced at SDCC etc. I know already we moved the Star Sisters to Feb and Thunder Punch He-Man has slipped out to April (from March). He will still have the first mini comic. We will update you as we move forward on any other changes to releases.

It truly looks to be an amazing year to be a MOTU fan in 2012. The mini comics are coming along fantastic. We are likley to reveal the covers of issues 2 and 3 at NYTF at our collector event (along with hopefully the next batch of figures and the updated Snake-Man-At-Arms with Roboto and TrapJaw parts). NYTF Collector night will be out next big reveal for all collector brands.

And the best part; 2012 is just the begining. Great things are in store for MOTU. The next few years are truly going to be a good journey.

Scott”

I love how happy they sound while giving out bad news! Prices are going up on an overpriced line and production on each figure is going down. Ebay scalpers are going to be charging even more.

I easily couldv'e got into MOTUC if they weren't so damn difficult to get (being oversees as I am).

The prices only went up for non-sub orders. Something they should've done years ago if they want subs to be the primary way they sell these things.

That's unfortunately yet another way of alienating new buyers. This whole idea of casting "cherry pickers" (i.e; people who don't subscribe/buy every single character) negatively is frickin' weird to me. It's like throwing stones at potential customers when they try to enter your shop.

I guess it will alienate some, but they want you to buy a sub. That's kind of the point, and their business plan. I wish these were sold in every store that has a toy section for only $10. If the way they sell these things (online only--one day a month) isn't holding people back, I doubt the $2 increase will.

Yeah, that's fair enough. Though if figures were going for $10 in stores... boy, that'd be glorious! Every day would be like Christmas.

I hope the forthcomming information they have to reveal is a new cartoon and mass market toy line in the 3.75" scale.

He-Man isn't a 3.75" scale toy line. I really don't see that ever happening.

Hey guys production numbers are purposely being cut down due to lack of sales partly caused by our faulty product, bad business practices and also our lack of customer service skills.

Of course we say this production thing every year to instrument the sense of false scarcity, and man is it fantastic.

Guess what we are also happy to report that we are signing on another year with the fantastic customer service skills of Digital River.

We've heard the masses and we know what you guys want..the sweet sounds of a Digital River.

It's gurunteed when you tell then your name is Kenneth they will tell the next rep your name is Vinny that's goot englush skeels they gut thur.

Also, this new art will make any DVDs or other items sky rocket to $80 the same super exclusive deal we offer on our website.

Also, all that saving money stuff and ideas and things we are sure having a good chuckle about how we are going to discuss it, there just discussed it.

Seriously that's all we're doing.

Point blank don't believe us because we're total semi-functional business whoo.

Matty Collector..

I'm doing fine without these. I look at the pictures, read the reviews, save a shit load of money & don't support lame-ass Mattel.

I'm seriously annoyed at myself since, due to a chain of really good seasonal sales, I'm now getting MOSTLY Mattel products for Christmas. The one toy company I can't stand and I've gone and given them a buttload of money!

In fairness though the products do look good. Ghostbusters and MOTUC. Yeesh.

Be careful there Dann, those Christmas gifts could be a serious gateway into the crazy world of Matty products. They can be very addictive!

3.75" toy lines are all the rage now. 3.75" scale is like the "in" scale for toys to be released in.

But I agree, I don't see it happening either, unless a new toon or movie is released. In which case I think it would happen.

I'm really looking forward to MOTUC in 2012. I finally signed up for the sub. These are easily the best 6" scale action figures produced today. Hands down. Not even a question.

Can't argue with that.

Mattel certainly hit the nail on the head with their MOTUC line. Not only the best 6" line, but also the best collector line IMO.

Yeah, I think MOTUC is the best collector's line too.. and nicest of the 6-7" stuff out there that isn't $60+.

Hee. Think I've got the main MOTUC's that I'll want (Battlecat WHEEEEEEEEEEEE!) and I've also got the main Ghostbusters I need (A Rick Moranis figure!! Now all I need is a Venus Flytrap and I'll have my Little Shop Of Horrors line!) so thankfully I can give Mattel a breather.

That is, unless they release the Legion Superboy as a single...

This is creeping up to #1 on my list of favorite toy lines.

I've also finally signed up for the MOTUC Club too (both actually, along with DCUC) and just wanna know: am I able to change the shipping method for all of them? Didn't realize they offered UPS Ground and I chose USPS Standard - can't stand waiting up to 2 weeks for my goods anymore.

They say in their Help/FAQ that they can't change methods after an order has been submitted, but need to know if that applies to subs as well, seeing as how they're not being prepared for shipping yet obviously.

Oh, and it seems they have the MOTUC character poll set up on He-Man.org and it looks one my most anticipated guys was ejected from the list for too much new tooling needed (which is understandable) - but does that mean that they'll never get made or are they still on the table whenever Mattel or whoever manages to make room/money for new tooling???

I've been considering dropping MOTUC, mostly because I never play with the ones I have.

Yeah, it was already hard enough to get them. Now it's going to be even more difficult! And on top of that, you have to pay more.

In the beginning, I wanted to get them all...that failed after the first few figures because they sold out too quick. Then it was only the figures I really, really wanted....and that didn't work either. Now I'm just going to say "forget it" to even trying anymore.
