I was a prolific comic collector as a kid but fizzled out of it years ago. Collecting toys however (speciffically MU and DCIH) actually got me interested again in reading some of the newer stories behind some of these awesome figures. I've been picking up some collected volumes here and there and have quite enjoyed them. So I wanted to pose the question, what are some of your favorite story arcs from comics that you would recommend as must reads? Here are some of my favorites:

-Infinity Gauntlet (I'm an absolute sucker for big crossovers and this one is by far my favorite)
-Dark Reign (Way to make me interested in Norman Osborn as a character Marvel)
-X-Men Days of Future Past (so classic)
-Anything from the years McFarlane was doing Spiderman
-Green Lantern: Sinestro Corps War
-JLA vs. Avengers (I'm an even bigger sucker for cross company crossovers)
-Infinite Crisis (I also really liked Crisis on Infinite Earths and SecretWars, but if you re-read them now they come across as pretty dated)
-Cobra Civil War from the original Marvel GI Joe series

Number one would be The Age of Apocalypse.

Followed by, in no particular order:
X-Men: The Dark Phoenix Saga
Transformers: Matrix Quest
Transformers: Generation 2
Transformers: Infiltration/Escelation/Devestation
DC Identity Crisis
Sinestro Corps War
Green Lantern: War of Light
Blackest Night

Dark Avengers and Blackest Night....before SDCC '09 I was out of comics for about 15 years. That and these story lines sucked me right back in. I barely read DC and now I'm a huge Lantern fan.

I enjoyed the civil war series, I was able to get a few comics, they're more graphic novels then comics so it can be pricey to get them all but good story line and artwork. I also recomment the Iron lantern series, if your a fan of iron man and green lantern, #1 issue only cost me a few bucks.

I noticed several people have recommended Blackest Night. I'm just waiting for the soft cover edition to come out and then I'm definitely going to pick it up. In the mean time I will probably read Rage of the Red Lanterns and Agent Orange to get me psyched for it.

Secret Wars, Dark Phoenix, Days of Futures Past, Age of Apocalype, Onslaught, Armor Wars, Maximum Carnage, Spider-Man 2099, Long Halloween, Dark Victory, Parallax, The Underbase Saga (Marvel TF), Matrix Quest (Marvel TF), War Within (Dreamwave TF) and Last Stand of The Wreckers (IDW TF).

Those are just off the top of my head. There's probably a lot of others I enjoyed, but I can't think of the books or arc at the moment. And I'm still playing catch-up with all of the IDW Transformers comics, so I may be adding to it. For example, I've heard a lot of good things about Stormbringer.

I recently decided to actually read X-men and catch up to the last 10 or so years of comics. I enjoyed House of M and liked most of the big arcs in X-Men after that, such as Messiah Complex and Utopia. But my favorite recent ones have been Necrosha and even moreso (somehow) Second Coming. My next few customs will be from SC I liked it so much.

Other than that I havn't actually read many arcs in other comics, just read about them on wikis and such. But my resurging interest in X-Men was kickstarted by my reading of Legion Quest in X-Men, and I really have to get to reading Age of Apocolypse.

I haven't read many comics, but I love Marvel Civil War and the City of Fear arc from the old Transformers comics.
