Hello all. I'm new to this forum, but ran across this in a web search looking for what I have.

Back Story: I went into Target today in Virginia, and wanted to pick up some of the Marvel Legends Iron Man 3 figures. I'm a sucker for a BAF, and the Iron Mongrel looked cool even if I did have to wait until the other pieces were released. I started sifting through the shelves, and I found a couple figures that were different than the others. I bought both figures, which I am including pictures of side by side in this thread.

Issue: The pictures of the item on the left include a BAF piece that doesn't seem right. The BAF pieces are not of the Iron Mongrel. At first I thought it was a variant figure or something, but nothing I can find follows that logic. Then I thought maybe another figure's part was placed here in its place. Looking closer though, the packaging which is used to hold the piece in place is molded to fit the different piece. I'm at a loss.

What I need: Any help anyone can give me as to what it is I'm looking at, or the value of such a thing would be of great help.

1. It's Iron Monger.
2. What you have on the left is called a re-pack. Some piece-of-shit, thief of a collector (they type of guy that IM and other superheroes would beat up and then laugh at) bought it, took the parts he wanted, then returned junk in it's place.
3. Welcome to the cutthroat, dog-eat-dog, world of toy collecting.

That's totally a repack, do not give yourself the impression that it has extra value. It's worth a loose Iron Patriot and whatever the going rate is on an un-needed leg & arm.

This is how things end up on eBay as "SUPER RARE VARIANT PACKAGING ERROR!!!".

It didn't look tampered with, but there was an iron man figure that had a similar issue and the back of that one did look opened. I almost bought it but didn't because of that reason. I have seen parts switched before, but never the packaging changed to fit the added parts. Just surprised that they took such care to change out the bubble mold. I am still fairly new to collecting. Typically a comic guy but have recently branched out. Glad I got just the one. Thanks for your help.

Some people go to great links to scam. But the real mystery is since the inner blister was formed to the arms and fit the Patriot. Who is it from. Hit monkey arms are not that big and hands are grey.

I just sent the guy a message, saying:

"Did you happen to buy this item at a retail store? If you did, I'm afraid you're a victim of a switch. This is when someone buys a toy, takes it out of the package, puts an unwanted toy back in the package and returns it for a refund. For starters, that particular comic has NEVER been included with ANY Marvel Universe comic packs, so it couldn't have even been mistakenly put there by the factory. Secondly, it looks like the package on Absorbing Man's side has been tampered with, at least by looking at the pictures. unfortunately, this is not worth $1000 dollars. If I were you, I'd take them out of the package and sell them individually, at least then you'll probably sell them for a few dollars."

The sad thing is, the page says that he's had 4 offers on it. If someones gonna drop a grand on MU figures, shouldn't they know enough about them to spot a fake?

I'm about to make him an offer of 37¢. That's much closer to it's actual worth.

It's funny when a thief burns a scalper. Lol.

considering your new and this the best advice i can give you research in your toys before buying secondly
their has never been variants for a movie wave yet so far
unless based of a comic book i.e the new ML wolverine line consists of 2 cyclops (phoenix five & modern i think) and Emma frost ~ rouge (predicted by me)
so yeah if anyone can find me a movie variant then please tell me

Thanks for the advice. Typically I do research on the items, but I was pressedfor time on this pparticular trip. Because it looked sealed and the bubble fit though Itook a chance . Still hardto believe ssomeone in this area would do it. There doesn't seem to be many otherccollectors in the area from what I can tell. If there are then they seem to not go after the same things I do as most items remain untouched on shelves for months. That and no one is advertising to unload anything they pick up. I still have a lot to learn though that's for sure. Thanks again. I am curious to find what the parts go to though. The figure used must be between 6-9 inches due to the size and proportions.

There have been some variants in the 4" movie lines. We don't exactly have much to go on for 6" movie lines. I know the IM 2 movie 6" War Machine had a variant. Several 6" Avengers had a slight paint change which one might call a variant as well.

That packaging looks like the insert from a leg from Zola or Terrax. Thats why it fit so well into the same exact packaging with a 6" figs leg.
