dang- A thigh swivel seems like an easy enough addition to a figure that comes with a chair so he can sit down in it properly without his feet being all f'd up... even Mcfarlane gave the DarkKnight Batman thigh cuts for sitting on the Metal Batcycle

Did robocop do a thigh swivel in a movie?

Robocop is perfect to me. I do want an Alex Murphy though.

Would love new quarter scales. All they do now are TMNT quarters and nothing else

No, but the figure could use another joint in the hip to give it a more accurate range of motion, equivalent to a swivel. Same with the shoulders, as Murphy should be able to touch his fingertips together, let alone wield the rifle with both hands.

It is too bad they didn't update the body for better articulation. I guess the cost of the Peter Weller license meant they couldn't retool the body. Still though, I wish they had retooled the upper torso to entirely swap out the neck for better accuracy.

Even a balljointed elbow would be very helpful!

Well he sat down with his feet flat in the chair pedals(?) So I'm going with "Yes, he did the equivalent of an actin figure thigh swivel"

They have released almost a dozen versions of this mold in the past 10 years. They got their money back in spades.

This looks really cool, but I'm going to wait to see if Hiya does a 1/12 release of ol' Murph.

Just hope the qc is better than on the 1/18th stuff. I wanted to get the robos from the joel kinnaman robocop but im just so scared that the figs will be janky and wont stack up against my marauder task force figs,

I'm not too sure it's quite that simple. Retool costs for an older mold can be quite high and depending on the cost of the likeness rights, if they wanted to do the chair and other accessories they may have needed to keep production costs down, especially with inflation and that whole supply chain problem. I can't imagine that didn't factor in. I can still not see how a new torso block to change the entire neck and that black neck seal out for a more accurate neck sculpt would have broken the bank. I mean if you're going to do it and pay all that money for the likeness and you want it to be accurate but not update the body much to save costs at LEAST that torso needed to be updated for accuracy. I suppose it will sell regardless, I mean I'll get the chair version so I can have him unmasked and battle damaged like the end of the film. Just seems to be a somewhat missed opportunity is all.

This figure is starting to pop up on eBay now. I watched a review on YouTube and it's confirmed that there have been zero articulation upgrades. I'm 100% passing on this lazy garbage re-release, especially at the outrageous price point.

NECA seriously dropped the ball on this one. I'm sticking with the original release with the spring loaded holster.

Was it ever touted as being anything but a rerelease of the same figure?
Plus some additional new parts?

It never seemed like something owners of the previous needed upgrade to.

They could have at least modified the elbows and knees with swivel-hinge joints to better facilitate posing!

This figure is good for those who missed the original release. It's hard to spend something for more of the same regardless of the additional head and muzzle flash effect. NECA had years to tweak the original sculpt which is why it's weird to see the same mold after a decade.

Aye, it's already available in stores here in the UK and apart from the quite good Weller head and tweaked helmeted-head nothing has changed. It's still the same limited articulation the body's hand for the past decade or so incapable of posing in some of Robo's most iconic poses from the films, especially with those barely moving elbow joints. Makes me more jealous of my mate's Mafex Robo. I hope I can afford the new Hiya Toys one if it's any good. It looks very similar to the Mafex. There's nothing Ultimate about this NECA figure.

I posted my mate's pics of his mafex robocop in this thread https://www.toyark.com/showpost.php?...2&postcount=18 and the NECA body can hardly do any of those poses most of which are taken directly from the movies.

Oh and bear in mind, the price? The non-chair version? About £40 here. The first figure released back in 2011? Was £14.99 here. That's a huge jump in price for f-all improvements to the body.

I held out a sliver of hope that the photos were just showing a proto using the old body, despite knowing better. Blah.

The last NECA figure I bought back in 2017 was the Ultimate Ahab Predator priced at $30. It's hard to swallow the price increase when the body is still the same as the 2012 version. I might buy this and keep it mint if I have the spare cash for it.

Nowhere in any of NECA's press releases for the figure did it say it was entirely new. It mentioned upgraded deco and digital printing...but never stated it was an all new sculpt or figure. Only the Weller head, blast effect and chair are new.

It is a money grab in that sense, but it's still a worthy look if you were never able to get a hold of any of the previous Robos. The original figures were released at a time where NECA's distribution was incredibly spotty in comparison to today, and if you wanted all of the accessories, they were often spread out among different figures. And with the secondary market for them being what it was, this is a good second chance for those that missed out and want an affordable option for their display. And yes...there are several other, better (i.e. more expensive) versions that have come along since this guy came out all those years ago.

Outside of the anniversary of the film, Neca probably had a license issue that stated they needed to put out something Robo related or risk losing the license altogether. Plus on top of the recent announcement of Hiya's (a company that, despite their excellent sculpt work, has never particularly wowed me...) Robo, it had to be in the back of NECA's mind that they probably want to be the first to market with Robocop product.

I dunno. The official NECA Twitter used "all new" when announcing them back in November.
"Your move creep!
2 all new RoboCop figures are headed your way for the 35th anniversary in 2022."

"All new" is too broad in that case.
All new doesn't have to means all new molds for the body or any modifications. It's a new release with different accessories(and paint job) compared to previous releases.

It would probably be proper to say it's a rerelease with some new accessories.

As to getting their money back in spades for the mold. If they are still using those old molds then it makes sense. You use molds to failure.

Aye, but I was mainly responding to this.

But the figure's an easy pass for me as much as I want a RoboCop figure on my shelf I'd already passed on all the previous NECA ones cos my best mate had them all and he'd sold them on cos he got tired of the limited articulation and weird proportions on them. And I have to agree with him that NECA seem very arrogant about this, calling it an 'Ultimate' figure when it's using an extremely dated and inaccurate body and charging a ton more money for it than the original release just cos it finally has Weller on board? I'd buy that for a dollar. But not much more.
