And for $50, that time machine better have more than just spinning wheels. I'm still heartbroken about the Hot Wheels Special Edition Elite being cancelled.

The animated figures are neat, but I'll likely only get Doc so he can drive that DeLorean if it ever gets released.
I totally agree, was bummed about the Hot Wheels Special Edition getting cancelled too, have a few other Elites in the collection.
Also am hoping for them to nail Doc Brown like they did these figures. Happy for those who really big fans. Even with the Marty from the first movie not having glimpse of the purple Calvins its still great. That Biff is the show stopper out of these 3. Will keep an eye on this line for sure, doesn't look like this was a miss in terms of face sculpt for NECA.

The Animated ones look a bit off to me, like they tipped a bit towards the Rick and Morty look.

Am I the only one that's disturbed by the fact that Biff was a straight-up rapist? That's seriously the only thing I can fault the original movie with, and I wish they could have found some other way to make George a hero. Most people kinda gloss that scene over, but if you really think about it that was some dark, dark shit.

What strikes me as more weird is that in the new 1985 the McFly's use Biff's services and dismiss his past actions as merely the catalyst that brought them together.

The Delorian with probably be the same as the Cinemachines Blade Runner car, with blacked-out windows to hide the complete lack of any internal detail, just a cheap diecast shell on a hollow plastic under-carriage.

NECA should go back to making diecast space ships and finish off all those ones we were shown at toyfair but they never released...

According to Randy from Neca, those didn't sell very well so not likely.

The fact that they're making an in scale Bruce the shark for their Jaws figures makes me think Neca making a Delorean for these figures might be possible. Im sure people are already asking them about it, as well as Doc.
Unless the one shown at Toy Fair was for display only and never intended to be a product to be made, there's going to be an animated series DeLorean to go with the animated series figures, so a DeLorean to go with the "Ultimate" figures isn't completely out of the question.

Someone just asked about the animated DeLorean, and he said that release was to be determined. So no guarantees that will get released if the animated figures don’t sell really well.

Selling it along with the figures would have assured quite a few sales. Seems like quite a miss on that item.

I was surprised not to see it offered with this. Could be a few reasons why it's not with the 1st wave. They put out a bunch of pre-orders at once, more than they normally do for a new license. So may be a case of not wanting to drop everything at once, not having room on the factory line for it yet, or trying to get the cost in line a bit before offering it.

I’m sure they have their reasons, and you offered good ones. This is a lot at once. But had the offered all the animated stuff at once, a lot of collectors would have jumped on the vehicle as well. To me, it sends the vibe, that neca is not confident in the lines strength. And if they are not confident, why should I be? My reason for getting the animated figures was because they would have the DeLorean. I am leaning towards cancelling my preorders on the animated figures. If there is still no info on the preorder for the animated DeLorean by mid July(normal sdcc time) then I will cancel my preorders.

I have little shelf space left and I’m not using it for incomplete lines.

Truly a vicious cycle haha. Honestly I'm not all that hopeful for the animated figures either. BTTF has a big fanbase for sure, but I'm thinking most casual fans will pass on these since they're honestly kinda ugly? I mean NECA did well with the source material and translating it into plastic, but jesus, I'm a grown man and I don't want that creepy animated Biff figure anywhere near my house!

It would probably count as sexual assault and / or attempted rape. And it gets mentioned a lot. To me it adds the gravitas the scene needs for George to stand up to Biff - not just as a nerdy picked-on guy, but as someone doing something genuinely important. It lends real weight to the perfectly timed buildup. The subsequent scenes riff (riff - Biff?) on the idea that when George stands up to Biff he becomes a confident stand up guy permanently, and Biff stops being a bullying thug permanently (a former coward can become brave, a former bad guy becomes... not bad?) but really it feels like movie logic because life doesn't work that way. We as an audience are so focused on George standing up to him so Marty can be born, and then Marty getting home in time to save Doc, we let the nice neat bow everything gets wrapped up in slide.

The sequel (Part 2) really played with the idea of events changing people though - especially Biff. What would a Biff who got what he wants looks like? Basically a monster. I mean, they have him murdering George McFly to get Lorraine - who he forces into getting fake boobs and cheats on anyway, and he's even prepared to kill Marty. The films don't shy away from showing that Biff is not just a big bullying buffoon, but he can be genuinely nasty.

I've always thought BttF 1 was George's movie, 2 was Biff's movie, and 3 was Doc's movie, and Marty is just our guide through other people lives.

On the subject of the toys however... I really hope Doc makes an appearance. As Joe says above, they might be holding back some stuff. I've preordered Marty and Biff anyway.

Biff was also a murderer in one timeline and an attempted murderer in another. When that guy has any degree of power, he becomes a monster. The only nice Biff is the car detailing version, and even that's just fake nice because he can't afford to be a dick to people.

Kinda off topic, but just watched Back to the Future yesterday and gawd damn it is such a good movie... just perfect pacing... you aren't bored for a single second from beginning to end.

Oscar nom for best screenplay - thoroughly deserved. It probably should have won. It's about as perfect as a script can get, and along with movies like 'Tootsie' it gets taught as an example of a great script.

IronicalLy, Tootsie lost most of its Oscars noms because of the Oscar bait juggernaut of Ghandi (E.T. suffered the same fate the same year). But the year of BttF was the year when Out of Africa won loads (the movie Pollack made after Tootsie). However, BttF lost in screenplay to Witness rather than OoA, because the latter was based on a book (it won in the category for best adapted screenplay though). Spielberg thought he had it in the bag with The Colour Purple, but he was blocked by OoA.

The likeness is better that the 2015 version, but he looks like he has too much makeup on...

I love the detail and accessories on all of these figures and really hope NECA goes far with this line. I want all costume incarnations of Marty and Doc from every film, plus Old Biff, Alt 85 Biff, Buford, and 1955 George and Lorraine. The fanbase is there for it if NECA does it right.

Sad thing is Mattel held the license for 6" BTTF figures years ago and didn't do ANYTHING for it other than a 1/12 scale hoverboard that came with their full size prop replica. Such wasted potential despite demand for a 6" line. I'm just glad NECA is doing it now since Mattel probably would have cancelled after 1 wave and not given us a full selection of figures with a bunch of accessories. Mattel also wouldn't have done a 1/12 scale Delorean either. Randy hinted in his Pixel Dan interviews that we may get one eventually. Getting an animated version is a good sign we'll get a live action version eventually.

Well I agree but Mattel was never one to step up their game or give the customers a premium product. I had hopes they would with the Hot Wheels and going Elite but as a business they would rather crank out quantity and variants at a cheap price point (WWE line is improving but how long will that last giving premium Ultimate version?). NECA has the better track record handling of movie/cinema IP so this was great.

Think if they had the 1/12 scale Delorean BTTF1 (though would be an expensive-$200-500 range, depends on the car features) and the Radiation suit figure together in a pack, they would sell more of this figure since it wouldn't just be associated with just one particular scene.

I'm also hoping that if NECA does a Jennifer figure, they can get the likeness rights to include 2 heads, both for Claudia Wells and Elizabeth Shue.
