Great news!!

I would love for them to eventually make a 7 inch Star Wars Select line of figures!

Keep in mind, they are only taking over the licenses that Gentle Giant already has. So they can do statues, busts and Jumbo Kenner figures. They did not magically get a 7" figure license.

Wow!!! Joe,how are you keeping up with the news today! I know toyfair is this weekend but I’ve never seen this much news before. Love it. Even toysrus wants back in. Lol.

Anyway awesome news on this front. The possibility for future figures is limitless now for diamond. I am drooling.....thinking about what may come. Perhaps the new home for some other lines.

They are being extra careful with their wording. They are simply taking over what GG was doing collectible wise, and adding their own sculptors and artists to the existing GG talent pool (there was likely a lot of crossover already). It just gives DST a broader reach in terms of what they were doing.

I think the companies send out press releases to all the sites. It’s just that one site gets first dibs it seems. I saw it while checking my weather report this morning.

With this buyout.....I really think something bigger could be coming.

1....it seems that properties are being liscensed to many companies at once now, rather than 1 company holding all rights. Seems more cost effective for all involved to spread the money around more on both sides.

2.....the rumor with Star Wars expiring with Hasbro in 2020 and no news of renewal makes me wonder that even if Hasbro keeps it.....big if....they may not be as exclusive as before. More companies might have access to figures.

I don’t know....either way...I am checking this site ever 20 minutes or so to see what’s new.

If I'm remembering correctly, GG has sculpted both Marvel Select and Marvel Legends. Will they still continue to do sculpt work for the Legends line?

Yes, DST is only buying the assets of the collector side. So they are acquiring their licenses, manufacturing and distribution channels. But Gentle Giant Studios (the other part of GG) is still intact and will continue to do sculpt work for DST and other companies, as well as the 3D work they do for films and such.

I wonder if this will lead to a revival of the Jumbo Super Powers figures. It would be nice to at least get the Lex Luthor figure that they cancelled and maybe the other remaining figures in the first SP wave.

I wouldn't be surprised if a Jumbo revival was in the works at some point from them. Getting those into comic shops on a more consistent basis could be good.
