I don't collect. I know very little about the hobby. But my friend does. I want to get the Mr Freeze Arkham City figure for him. In the box. In good condition. For a while (late last year) it was going for 80-150 on ebay. Now that I can afford it at that price range there are none left. Just a couple of sellers who have been trying to gouge people since before Christmas for $300. I would like to find it for around $100. Any other good places I could look?

Depending on where you are, check local comic shops. If you are out in BFE, sorry. Groups like this can sometimes help if someone sees it locally and is willing to help you out. Otherwise, put your money back and keep watching.

Toy conventions are a great place to look. You'll often find your holy grails along with stuff you didn't even know existed. If you can't find a toy con then try any comic/sci-fi/fantasy/pop culture convention.

Just FYI, it can help to have where you are in your profile. That way people know how close to you they are and may be more inclined to help you out.

Thanks for the replies. I'm in central Maine. So, as you can imagine, not a lot of conventions or comic stores. I had my own comic store from 2000-2008. We didn't sell any action figures. Nor did the owner before me. I used to take preorders for statues from regulars at a very deep discount, but that was about it. Not much interest in action figures from customers. None, as far as I could tell.

Despite being a collector for 20 plus years, I've never been to a convention. They weren't easily accessible back when I was a collector. Even if I could find a convention to attend, transportation cost would likely eat up any savings. Assuming I could even find one- which seems unlikely. I guess I am just going to have to be paitient. I just thought maybe there were some good online sources that I didn't know about.

Hi, in November RI has a con. It is an alright mix usually featuring more with the celebs attending. As it's in Ri you could plan a day trip for it. I'm not sure if they announced any guests yet.

That's my take on traveling to out of the way conventions. Don't make it all about trying to track down elusive/exclusive items. Enjoy the events at the con. Meet other fans. Also, use it as an opportunity to explore a new city.

Also check Craigslist, OfferUp, and Letgo. It might be a while before you find a particular figure, but you can usually find some decent deals.

Not related to the topic, but does anyone know any good place to buy puzzle toys?
