No, this was asked on Twitter. Sort of makes sense since the Engineers (pressure and chair suit) weren't terribly hard to get long after the line had ended. I saw a lot of both Engineers at Hastings to the point where I was able to get a second chair suit Engie for $7. The only Prometheus figure that was in demand or hard to find after the line ended was the Deacon. So maybe I could see Deacon getting put out again but there's no indication that they will.

Relative to other NECA figures, these look crap no matter how you cut it.

But I'm now in Alien Club X or whatever that bloody name is (what's wrong with just Club Alien or something?), plus I know I'd buy them down the line regardless.

Actually, you're completely right about that. The vast majority of the characters in that movie were seriously unlikable assholes, aside from that actors you mentioned.

I watched it a few days ago and I really couldn't have cared less about any of those dumbasses except when Elba and the two guys with him crash the Prometheus into the Engineer ship. That part was a bummer.

Yeah but we might be imprinting our like for Elba from his other roles onto the captain. I mean he is fairly likable for what little time we spend with him but he is seriously underused overall, same goes for his co-pilots.

No argument there but of all the characters in the movie he was easily the most likable despite his little screentime. Could just be that he was the only person in the movie without his head up his own ass.

The biologist messing with lifeforms did bother me quite a bit, it was idiotic.

That's all you imprinting what you expected or hoped for. The notion of a nonverbal promise is entirely hollow and signifies nothing, if I nod to someone and they nod back as a reflex I shouldn't take that as a nonverbal promise that they're on the same page as me in any matter.

That's a good summary. What was marketed as something mind-stretching turned out to be little more than Jurassic Park In Space.

The disillusionment was similar after J.J. Abrams was turned loose on Star Trek. Instead of something moving and inspiring, we got a weird, shallow parody. Even the redesigned starship seems like a surfboard mockery, a kind of oblique insult.

What's going on? Is it a sign of the times, that so many shows and stories are pale substitutes or rehashes of what has come before?

That's complete bullshit. I study film, and even with trailers and marketing, it's a visual communication to the audience.

Even my screenwriting professor acknowledged that it was marketed as an explanation.

Prequels are supposed to serve a purpose, just like sequels. We all knew this would be set in the Alien universe. There is no point in setting a movie in a pre-established universe only to not utilize those connections. And that's why this movie failed, it's pointless. It's entire reason for being isn't valid.

Watch the trailer again.

The Space Jockey money shot and the music from the original Alien trailer. And David at the end stating "big things have small beginnings".

No promises my ass.

The 2009 movie was brilliant and was released to overwhelming positive reception from fans and critics alike. I dragged my dad to the movie, and he was grumbling about it since he was a fan of the original. He came out loving it. It wasn't a parody....it was a love letter to the original series while creating a new beginning. You're the first person I've heard speak ill of it.

Well, I strongly disliked many things about both movies. Everyone views these things differently. Elements that stand out for one person can differ dramatically from what matters to someone else.

Two things that matter to me are a good story and good characterization. Special effects can be fun and impressive, like they were in both of these movies, but too often they resemble the drummer in a terrible band who bangs as loud as possible to cover for lack of skill and musicality. By analogy, many otherwise lame modern films attempt to redeem themselves by going way overboard with SFX. It certainly worked for a while, especially with certain pictures like Avatar, where SFX were arguably the single feature that turned an otherwise unremarkable film into a box office record-smasher, but going forward, I wonder if the novelty isn't wearing off.

Regarding the argument that something is good because "everybody likes it," one thing that I find important in life is to disregard consensus, especially nowadays, when so much is manipulated.

Sorry you disliked it. It's still a great movie with great acting and a lot of heart. More than previous iterations of Star Trek could offer.

If all you saw were cool special effects, you weren't really watching it.
