I'm in the same camp. I don't think people realize how amazing the SH Fig turtles are. Honestly, I didn't get it either, until I had one in hand. The super solid, heavy feel, amazing. The best a turtle has ever felt. The amaaazing articulation. The cartoon accuracy. Which is a biiiiit goofy, but, if we had all the villains and friends? Dear god that would be cool.

Point is, I don't think people bought into the SH figs enough for them to pursue the line. Or maybe NECA had the jump on them and they don't want to compete with that. Maybe they felt NECAs price point will ultimately work better for people for right now. After NECA has its run then SH Fig could pick up then. Or cherry pick during NECA success with a few villains, not sure. It would be the first time TMNT could be getting a full high quality figure line. Maybe they think, why not start at the lower price point first, kinda thing.

If that's the case.....

Collect all the NECA stuff because it's starting to appear that the line could move forward. Wish it were SH, but, I can't be disappointed. The NECA sculpts and design choices are spot on. My fav style foot soldier of all time too. That shredder is perfect.
Which, fyi, looks exactly like the SH FIG prototype. Another sign their style choices may have been too similar between the two companies. Leaving SH Fig to concede for now. I still want that SHF shredder more than anything.....

I have been buying both toy lines, in hope, at least one of them moves forward with this higher quality turtle line stuff. Cuz, it's like, finally!! Please! TMNT at a higher quality and more articulation!!! Woohoo!
The playmates are great. Better than great, but, been theres a ton of it already. What we all want now, desperately, is a high quality set!
I bought up all the SDCC stuff at the big prices, bit the bullet, and I'm glad of it. It's a really good sign that they are releasing this stuff on the bigger retail level. I feel like buying that stuff up helped propel this to the larger retail, so now, hopefully, a full line gets made and all us TMNTFL'rs get our fix.

TMNT FOR LIFE!

To each their own. I have the the NECA ko comics set, the NECA cartoon set, and the movie set. They are all fantastic. I saw the Figuarts figures, and for me, they are too bright and too cartoonish. The NECA cartoon set is a sweet blend between the cartoon's almost Disney-style animation and the 1990's video games. Also, The biggest factor? I have the First Gokin Kraang. He goes better with the NECA than the Figuarts. That was the biggest reason I passed on Figuarts. Again, it's totally a matter of personal tastes. Now is a great time to be a TMNT collector. We'll finally have multiple options available to us!

The simple truth is most US toy manufacturers don't seem to give a shit anymore about Europe. Sure, it will have to do something with license restrictions in this case, but it's not like they are doing any real effort to find a solution. They simply don't seem to care. The same goes for big players such as Hasbro and Mattel. In Belgium you find very little of their action figures at retail. All we get are the crappy movie based figs at inflated prices. All of them seem to fold back on their borders, no idea why. And sure, you can import stuff (I do it all the time), but after adding shipping and customs import taxes, it makes things really expensive. :-(

I’ve held them. They are nice, but their faces are ... too “Saturday morning cartoony.” It’s almost Disney level cartoony. I don’t fault them for it, because I understand there is a fandom for the cartoon and the Archie comics,

What I like about the Neca turtles is its sculpt is based on the arcade sprites, not the cartoon. I enjoyed the cartoon as a kid, but honestly, my life from 1989- 1990 was spent at the corner arcade playing tmnt 4 player and reading the mirage comics.

I'd really like to get some of these as long as they're not hard to find, but something tells me that my local Targets won't have these or any NECA figures for that matter. TBH I'm not sure I've ever seen NECA figures in a Target.

By Playmates figures, do you mean the 6" figures that came out a few years ago, or the original 1988 figures?

you have to go to the geek area (next to electronics) not the toy area or gaming area

Maybe that's why I've missed them, but I feel like there are certain locations that totally skip on things like geek/collector stuff.

By listening to Randy at ToyFair it seems NECA are heavily invested in TMNT and they'll take this line as far as the fan support allows them to take it. They will make every single figure if they are allowed to.

From the interview it seems we can expect another 8 figures out by Holiday 2019.

The way he hints at it, it seems likely it would be Bebop, Rocksteady, Granitor, Traag, Slash & Leatherad (and possibly 2 figures we haven't seen yet)

The way he made it sound NECA have been working on this stuff for years already and they have a whole bunch of other stuff in various stages in the lab.

Most Targets have had a collector's section for a couple years now. Mostly it was used for Pops, graphic novels, and pop culture merchandise like lunch boxes, mugs, etc. It's always been in the area around electronics and books.

I have Local Targets that have NECA signs and empty spaces in the sections but no NECA products. THe shelves, rather pegs have been empty since last August....and no products.

I assume not all Targets get NECA. Wish I could figure out a way to let my Target carry them, but I assume that is the higher ups, decisions to make.

Not sure if you are on Twitter, but if you are just tweet a pic of the store @ NECA Toy’s directly with the city, state location. Helps to also @Target in the post as well just showing and stating the disarray.

I actually have the same experience as you at my local store. The NECA section is there and barely going. Lots of empty spaces and redundant figures. I don’t even have most of the newer figures. Finally had enough and tweeted out exactly what I just told you. Did that today. Low and behold Targets actual customer survey account(whom I did not include in my tweet), responded back saying they would directly contact my local Targets customer support team and get it restocked. Not sure it will happen but hoping so!

NECA also has a program, not sure if it’s still going, where a normal person like myself could sign up to be an ambassador for them. Visit the store once a week. Send them a picture so they know how their section is doing, and get a gift card for doing so. This would also help stock the store better I guess. I almost signed up but didn’t have the time to commit to once a week visits.

I realllly hope so. Playmates is a wild card. It worries me they could disapprove anything they don't want competing heavily with them.

I bought them as a super turtle fan, and, they were super discounted. Damnit...they feel really good in hand!!!
The look has grown on me a bit too. I bought the Kamen rider crow because it looks like some kind of super shredder crow mutant. That pairing alone makes having the two turtles I have worth it. The overall articulation makes some good scenes.

NECA made a smart decision to ditch being so faithful to the cartoon look. Hope they do a great job!

If SHF were to continue the line and make all the awesome other characters, would you buy those turtles?

I don’t think I’d ever buy the turtles, although they were my backup plan in case I didn’t get the sdcc box set a few years ago. It might sound silly, but I didn’t like the look of them with my First Gokin Krang, and their prototype was too tiny. That being said, my $$$ to whichever company gives me a decent splinter. I need 80’s comics, 87 toon, and 90’s movie splinter so badly it hurts. I’d make my own if there was a sculpted humanoid rodent that WASN’T Mickey Mouse... hell, I’m almost willing to start a kickstarter for a humanoid rodent ninja figure... call him “Toothpick”.

These are starting to appear in certain Target locations. People are posting pictures. Randy on Twitter said those releases are “eary” and that wide releases are supposed to start next week! Ahhh i feel like these are gonna be so hard to find.

The in store pictures I’ve seen show about 6 sets on the shelf. No clue how many are in back for stock but hopefully more than 6.

Holy shit..I didn't even really think of Splinter...okay, now I'm going to obsess about it...I've focused my obsession so much on getting an 88 style foot soldier with tons of articulation. JUST ONE! We TMNT fans ask for so little. I totally want that toothpick now too XD

Those cartoony turtles aside, if SHF made either of those two, damn.

I'd probably center my main collection around that Gokin too.
